Common Sense Prevails

Routledge was sent off towards the end of the Swans 1-1 draw at Loftus Road after the linesman advised hapless referee Anthony Taylor that he had kicked out at Karl Henry after a tackle which Garry Monk described as a leg breaker.

Replays showed comprehensively that this was not the case and this was backed up as the Swans appeal was heard and deemed to be successful.

The FA’s official website confirmed this evening that “Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Friday 2 January 2015, Swansea City’s Wayne Routledge has had his claim for wrongful dismissal upheld.”

It also confirmed that the three match ban that went with the red card would not stand which means that Routledge could be back in action as soon as tomorrow as the Swans take on Tranmere in the FA Cup.

What it does beg the question of though is what now happens to the officials who got this decision so wrong and – even more amazingly – missed Rob Green’s handling of the ball outside of his area very early on in the game.

Decisions like the ones made wrongly yesterday directly affect the outcome of the game yet the officials always seem to go unpunished for such howling mistakes.

Common sense prevails for us but Anthony Taylor needs his own spell on the sidelines
