Ipswich were superb against a spirited Coventry. When they lost momentum, their manager knew exactly what to do. So nice to see incisive fast attacking football with intent. Their first instinct is to go forward. So much better than all the Pep infected poundshop wannabees that prefer their players facing the wrong way.

For all that you can say about Alex Ferguson, old whiskey nose played in a very simple way (attacking wingers with pace and delivery with a clinical striker to put away the chances) but he was superbly effective in getting his team to do it. He also had unparalleled backing from the board, not many clubs would back their manager over their record signing and star player but United back then did it multiple times. Most famously with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam but they were not the only examples.

Never a fan of Man Utd, but I admired the way Ferguson set-up his teams with 442: 2 pacey, attacking wingers, 2 strikers, a midfield pairing of a hard bastard and a box to box player, full-backs that could get forward as well as defend and 2 physical, hard centre-halves, and always playing with aggression.
