Exactly the man knew how to manage and how to get the most out of his side tactically.Never a fan of Man Utd, but I admired the way Ferguson set-up his teams with 442: 2 pacey, attacking wingers, 2 strikers, a midfield pairing of a hard bastard and a box to box player, full-backs that could get forward as well as defend and 2 physical, hard centre-halves, and always playing with aggression.
Everyone wants to be the new Pep Guardiola but the reality is that as a style of football it is incredibly difficult to implement and without players of exceptional skill and the ability to get the most out of those players you end up looking like a Russel Martin side - pedestrian and predictable except for the rare occasions where it all suddenly clicks and you blow sides away.
What is worst is that it is those occasional standout performances that keep fans and the board onside thinking its only a matter of time before it really all comes together and that there is genuine progress being made.
