I'm planning another trip over for a few days in December. Went to book my usual return rail ticket from Baglan to Rhoose via Bridgend on the morning of Monday 16 December, and got a notice saying no trains available. No explanation, of course.
There are normal services up until Friday 13 then everything seems to shut down. No service from Swansea through Cardiff. Can't find anything about it on tinternet. Any rail users here have any more info? Are there major works planned?

Ahhh, the quirks of UK train ticketing.

General rule of thumb: tickets go on sale approximately twelve weeks in advance. However some train operators have isolated sales further out than twelve weeks (it’s all tied to the train operating company policy). The pictures below are availability for Swansea to Cardiff in both October and November.

Thanks, Coop. So you're saying hang on a week or two and the tickets will appear on Trainline?

Correct, that’s my assumption.

I have a similar wait for some tickets through LNER.

All the fuckers do is put the ticket prices up. they couldn't give a fuck about passengers, total bunch of cunts.
Put a complaint in last November, waste of effort and time!

What happened, Max? I find Delay Repay quite effective (assuming you were delayed).

If ever you want to claim money back from anywhere, use Resolver, absolutely superb.

Best one was when I’d booked to go watch Wales in the euros quarter finals. British Airways cancelled my flight so we never went. In total I got almost double what I paid out on the trip, including hotel, match tickets, bridge toll money, diesel to and from Heathrow and a few other bits. Also used them for a delayed train trip to London. Literally a couple of emails and that was it.

Not delayed no, its a long story, but the just of it was, we booked seats on train to London, then on the day the 10 carriage train was reduced to 5, I was needing the use of crutches at the time off and on and we couldn't have the seats we booked, did manage to get seats, but Lad stood the whole way to London by the by the entrance and exist doors, the isles were jam packed, which was dangerous in my opinion there would have been carnage if the driver had to do an emergency stop etc, plus it was impossible to get to a toilet, complained about the conditions of the journey etc and mentioned the HSE would be all over them if the worse had happened and reply I got was that the HSE don't put a limit on people standing in the isles of the carriage ways, unbelievable.

Argued back and forth over countless emails, bunch of cunts who couldn't care less about the safety or comfort of their passengers.

It wasn't about claiming money back it was the serious safety issues as I saw it and it was uncomfortable for me with a Bakers Cist injury jammed in with Mrs in twin seats after I'd booked table seats.

There’s a good reason the HSE don’t put limits on it, they’re not responsible for the railways, it’s The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR).

But I get the jist of your post.

Putting H&S aside, you didn’t get the seat allocations that you had reserved with one member having to stand. As you say, their duty of care is minimal and they’ll just ignore you until you go away.

Resolver. Makes note.

Cheers NJ.

The whole reducing the number of carriages from ten to five thing happens a lot these days on the Swansea to Paddington route. It’s fucking annoying and at peak times (as Max has said) potentially very dangerous. I hate trains. I’ve spent too many hours on them for too long.

But they'll hitch up 200 carriages to a train on Rugby International day and cram people in like sardines, fekin cowboys.
