The Chase card was great because you got the actual exchange rate when you chose no conversion but with the ATM charging it makes a huge difference so I will get a Wise Card and see how that goes with ATM charges.

I've been to Spain about 12 or 13 times in the last 10 years and never used cash once. I always take about 100 Euros with me just in case but never use them. Always pay by card or with my phone in bars, restaurants, supermarkets, fuel stations, etc. Was in Madeira last week and did the same except for one ride down a very steep hill in a wicker toboggan but I knew they only took cash for that before I went.

If you have a Santander account with a debit card, I’m pretty sure it’s free to use the debit card at a Santander cashpoint, if you use it at another banks’s cashpoint you’ll pay.

One of my kids swears by Monza.

It's the amigo's who want cash S :)
We're hoping to go abroad this year, but that's governed by our youngests health.

Cala d'Or if we go to Majorca, but the pull of Italy is getting stronger my dear old Parents used to love Italy.

Loads of things have changed in Europe since Brexit, perfect excuse to charge Brit's anything they like.
Although I think high street banks are waking up to us all using no-charge alternatives. I had an email from Lloyds a couple of weeks ago saying they were going to drop their charges for overseas transactions a withdrawals. They probably just load the charges on the exchange rate though.
