Woman charged with gross negligence manslaughter

What's the point in jail. No deterrent as you can't deter a terrible mistake as she must have thought it safe, and no punishment will be worse than the poor woman living with the consequences, nor help the victims. Maybe they will want 'revenge' in the guise of 'justice' but that won't do anything to make them better. Not sure how I'd feel if my wife (who paddleboards) was one of these poor people.

It's not as if she was a drunk, drugged, speeding driver. Do they even get jail these days?

Actually reading the detail it depends what the 'gross negligence' was.
It is terrible and this case/ sentence will be interesting. I read a lot of cases involving what she has been charged with, and the punishment varied wildly. It’ll depend on how they grade her culpability. She’s obviously cooperated and pled guilty early. I’d be more surprised if she doesn’t get a couple of years inside though.

The St Joe story is an absolute corker!

Might be more to come from what has just happened today 🙈
Can see a 3 part series on TV in a couple of years 🤣

Excellent post Monny, I knew Paul from my time in Tata, lovely fella he was to, its all very very sad indeed.

Been reading it today and was really upsetting.

Don't know the lady but it's not painted a great picture of her at all.

10 years and 6 months in jail.

The judge didn't hold back in the summing up either.

From what I've just read this tragic accident was thoroughly preventable.

Looks like she will be out in 6/7 years.

Terrible that she tried to put some of the blame on Paul O'Dwyer who ultimately jumped back in to his own death to try and safe others whilst she stood back.
Interesting to read she was suspended from the police force.

She was suspended from the police at the time of the tragedy she was eventually kicked out and was manager of the Melin Advice Centre most recently.
I wasn’t going to mention this but Amy was attending a disabled activity club there on a Tuesday morning,Amy’s health took a huge downward spiral and there was a dreadful problem with one of the PA’s.
My wife phoned Nerys to go through a few things and she was a total cunt about it all, completely against Amy,she wasn’t interested in anything my wife was saying and basically making out that my wife was lying.
She’s a vile evil brazen cunt and I wish she’d had 30 years.

Less than two years jail time per life lost, that’s a tough one to accept for those loved ones still clearly suffering with grief. It reads like she’s one of those who always apportions blame or fault elsewhere.

There was more then. Fair to say my opinion has changed with the updates.
