Woman charged with gross negligence manslaughter

What's the point in jail. No deterrent as you can't deter a terrible mistake as she must have thought it safe, and no punishment will be worse than the poor woman living with the consequences, nor help the victims. Maybe they will want 'revenge' in the guise of 'justice' but that won't do anything to make them better. Not sure how I'd feel if my wife (who paddleboards) was one of these poor people.

It's not as if she was a drunk, drugged, speeding driver. Do they even get jail these days?

Actually reading the detail it depends what the 'gross negligence' was.
It is terrible and this case/ sentence will be interesting. I read a lot of cases involving what she has been charged with, and the punishment varied wildly. It’ll depend on how they grade her culpability. She’s obviously cooperated and pled guilty early. I’d be more surprised if she doesn’t get a couple of years inside though.
