Criminally underrated?

Just seen a montage of his goals - at least 65% were scored against the big 4!!

Remember his....panther? celebration crawling on all fours? And when everyone thought he'd died on the pitch against Spurs when it turns out he had a history of fainting and just needed the smelling salts..

That's what happens when you're making the quick runs and the ball comes too late. The pass started coming later and later the more Monk imposed his style. He'd have scored a shedload for Laudrup.

It was a strangely timed signing that summer. It was clear he was going to be on the bench a lot with Bony around. Perhaps the club thought the big money offer for Bony was coming that summer rather than the following January.

Fantastic scoring record at every other club he played for. Just like Tammy Abraham, file him under 'right club, wrong time'.

I remember standing in White Heart Lane wondering if he was dead. Luckily we’d had a preview, so thought he’d probably be fine. He was ok.

He looked sharp when he finally broke into the side. Ended his first season with a run of six goals in ten games, then scored in our first four games the following season, but the team started falling to bits as things went on and more of what had worked for years was purged by Monk.

Criminally offside was more like it unfortunately
I’ll persist until the day I die that he was offside more because of the failure of our midfield to release the ball earlier rather than him going too early.

His runs off the last man were so clever, he loved to play off the shoulder.

You could see his frustration time and time again when he would make a run and we would hold the ball up.

Look at his compilations… most of his goals are scored from him being played in behind.

Scored goals at the highest level wherever he’s been.

To clarify I didn't say it was his fault he was offside so much :)
I agree with Winston and Michu that the problem was with the midfield who lacked the players to move the ball quickly and find his runs

Unfortunately some of the players around him weren’t quick enough of thought, there was nothing wrong with his judgement and offside was just a stick to beat him with.

Montero suffered the same fate with Neil Taylor behind hollering at him to make a run behind a defender so he could lob it over the top when all Jeff wanted was the ball into feet with his back to goal so that he could turn and tie his defender up in knots. Taylor made Montero look like a mug and it was very unfair.

Montero signed for some amateur team up north a few months back. Fc St Helens. Must be scaring the crap out of opposition in that minor league. Still only 35
Problem with Montero is his hamstrings are knackered, he can't play at a high level anymore
For every one or two games he plays he will spend the next four or five out injured
