• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Yes...This thread title is perhaps the most boring ever, but nevertheless I thought worth mentioning and expanding on..

I recently took over the responsibility for paying for my house's broadband with EE.

EE is the new name for BT, and they are currently ditching the old, traditional copper wire landline system for a 'Digital Voice" service utilising broadband and ,basically, VOIP.

On my application for service, I requested to retain my old 'landline' service and number, and as it was only £5 a month I agreed to that.

I've just got my first real bill from EE.

I've been charged £12.48 for about 12 phone calls. The minimum charge is 30p per call, even if the call is local and 5 seconds long. The calls are charged at 20.9 p/min. None of this was explained to me on application.

This is way, way more expensive than the old analogue system. How is this progress? I'll stick to my cellphone, and free WhatsApp and Facebook calls from now on. Lots of elderly people will not know about how expensive these calls will be.

Feck you EE, and feck your new 'Digital Voice' service that drops if there's a power cut.!

Righto...I'll get off my high horse now.

Check if you can do a monthly add on to cover calls if you want to keep using it. We just use ours for incoming…not sure why tbh…habit and our inability to remember/charge/turn on the mobiles.

I thought they advertised the fact that call plans and charges would be no more expensive than pre VOIP days.

I’ve just renewed my mother’s contract with Plusnet (part of EE) today for broadband and a telephone, I’ll be going through the small print tomorrow.

Not a boring thread - it has potential to save people a lot of cash.

Something else BT won’t always tell you… if you subscribe to TNT Sports via BT, you can save quite a few quid a month by switching service to route through Discovery Plus.

BT has never been anything but trouble imo. I’ve been lured back several times and I’ve never had a good experience with them. Along with Virgin one of he worst companies out there.

Justified rant! I haven’t used a landline in a long time, but I’m quite shocked at what you have been charged there.

Is this the one where you plug the phone into your hub? So basically the phone calls you make are going through your internet connection? That was the brief understanding I had of it a few years back.

I just use my pay as you go, 5 quid a month, 500 minutes, unlimited texts pretty poor data, but that’s fine.

Just use it for incoming calls only Bryn, but I suppose if someone in your family does like using the landline instead of mobile, then you would have to look at getting a call bundle.

For £6 a month on a contract you can get unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 20gb of data. It’s a 1 month contract which means you can bail out after a month f you’re not happy.

I haven't had a landline since I left the UK. My mobile contract here with a company called Lobster includes unlimited calls and texts within EU and UK, 200GB data per month in Spain plus 5GB roaming in UK and 16GB roaming in EU. Costs 12.99€ per month, renewable every month. Perfect for what I want.

You’re not in the UK? Where’ve you gone?
