My son will be old enough to appreciate going to pick one this year, does anybody have any recommendations for any? Ideally over towards Neath but we can travel if it is worth it.

Thasts an American tradition. Both my kids grew up in Indiana and pumpkin picking was very much part of every October.
Its not a thing here though as far as I know. Well, It wasnt when I was growing up, it may be now?

This one's fairly close to me and we used to take the kids there for pumpkin picking. They were good because the pumpkins were still in the field where they were grown, sometimes still attached by the stalk.

Gower Fresh, at Poundffald Farm in Three Crosses is a rip-off and I would recommend avoiding it. I get that if a venue runs out of the pumpkins they've actually grown there, they'll go and get more, but Gower Fresh didn't even try to hide it. As we were queuing up to pay, you could see huge boxes of pumpkins from various supermarkets off to the side in the car park, with the prices from those supermarkets clearly shown. Given they were charging more than triple those prices, I thought that was taking the piss a little, so left our wheelbarrow of pumpkins there and got out of there.

We’ve been up to the one on a farm behind the Gnoll, if you want one close to Neath. Pumpkins can be a bit hit or miss if you go closer towards Halloween.

I think it’s a load of BS myself but the kids enjoy it.

Had a similar conversation today. Back then us poor kids had a swede, we hadn't heard of a pumpkin.

A swede on Halloween! Pure luxury, you were obviously spoilt rotten.

When I were a lad, we had to spend weeks before Halloween collecting dog turds from the street to be combined and shaped into something close to a pumpkin. The smell from the tiny candle we put in there was horrible, but it was all we had to keep us 13 kids warm...
