I think it’s both a tactical thing and some of our players being a bit hesitant. People who saw the preseason presentation said that it was 45 mins of Sheehan talking about off the ball tactics and 15 of him talking about us in possession. If I had to guess, I’d say we don’t focus much on what we do with the ball. I think that contributes to the lack of threat in our football at the moment and it’s why we seem to stop as soon as we get to the final 3rd. Some of it will of course just be the natural ability of the players as we are in the second division. While the coach will always come under scrutiny, and rightly so, the players must also accept the same scrutiny.
How many times have we seen obvious passes take longer than necessary to do ( I'll argue that it is a different view from the stands or TV screens than on the pitch).
Many of our players seem to take an extra touch, or an extra second or so, and the pass is either cut out or the receiving player under more pressure.
Is it down to tactics or just the players not up to the tempo of a game.
In general modern football is all about keeping shape and not pressurising and winning the ball.
Natural ability looks to be coached out of players and support teamwork getting less and less.
You might guess I'm still frustrated from last nights game. (To add to the others)
Sometimes it’s almost like taking the piss. There was a simple pass on to Ronald in space (yeah, that’s where he normally puts the ball, I know), and Galbraith took 4 touches - four - before playing it directly to his feet, thus making him stop and give the defender time to be on top of him. It was laughable. Tymon, Burgess, Bango….actually no, f**k it…they ALL do it.While the coach will always come under scrutiny, and rightly so, the players must also accept the same scrutiny.

To be fair to Idah he does win quite a few of those balls in the air played to him but … no one ever gambles that he will win it and make that run beyond himI would go as far to say, quicken the play up and go for the kill when in advance arears. Yes we will have to pass backwards at times, but it seems that's all we do. Many said it'd like watching Williams or Martin. It's something in between for sure. Also side note, I'm not saying we need to play it at risk with Vig, but not overly into the long passes that rarely succeed. We are a team that likes to play it on the ground.
Thought Idah actually looked good last night. He's been alright in general since signing, much more mobile than Vip, just seems to lack any conviction in the 18 yard boxTo be fair to Idah he does win quite a few of those balls in the air played to him but … no one ever gambles that he will win it and make that run beyond him
My view was a player that must be utterly frustrating to play with.Thought Idah actually looked good last night. He's been alright in general since signing, much more mobile than Vip, just seems to lack any conviction in the 18 yard box
I noticed this yesterday. Cullen was know where to be seen. One flick on was really good.To be fair to Idah he does win quite a few of those balls in the air played to him but … no one ever gambles that he will win it and make that run beyond him
Oh Jesus. Thats nuts.Michael Duff had more points on the board at this stage in his time here.
I don't think either Carrick or Brendan will be looking for a club as small as us at this stage. On topic though, the owners are almost certainly not going to be happy with the return on their investment so far. They didn't make the kind of financial commitment they did to be sat in 17th place in the league.
With the likes of Carrick and Rodgers out of a job now I would be very surprised if they didn't put out feelers for either and if they wanted to come then I could see them pulling the trigger especially if we get another shit performance on Saturday.
More chance of me becoming the next Swansea City manager than Brendan Rodgers, that ship has sailedOn topic though, the owners are almost certainly not going to be happy with the return on their investment so far.
