Player Recruitment or Manager

The recruitment is supposed to be the best summer for a number of seasons.

I agree we miss both a composed defender who can bring the ball out and an upgrade on Darling.

The void left my LoB clearly not replaced or seen as an issue.
I’m sticking to my thoughts that the summer window was more joined up and proactive that it has been for years BUT I think lots of people (me included) have been overly optimistic in terms of the individual players and the impact they’d make.

The biggest disappointment for me has been the lack of a plan/style going forward over these 15 league games and that has to be the responsibility of the manager and coaching staff. Whilst we all prefer different styles and there’s no right or wrong way to play IMO, if someone asked me what our style is I’d be hard pushed to give any answer.

Weighing that up I think (sadly as I like Sheehan) it is probably for the best to make a change IF we have someone ready to come in next week!

The player recruitment has been excellent - we haven't had this sort of personnel incoming since PL days, both in quality & cost. The problem has been how to use it, and that means only the manager is at fault.

Sacking Sheehan now, if we were to do it would be the best time with an international break upon is. I'd go for the option of bringing in a director of football in to assist Sheehan. If he feels his position is untenable and he resigns, it's a positive outcome, no compensation to pay and we have an experienced DofF in charge. If he stays and improves, we also win. If we don't improve and he stays, then get rid and we have a DofF already in place who knows the set up, players etc. with the compensation payable anyway.

He is a good coach, he just plays too safe and simple without being adventurous. That is the sad part of it.

Before today, I thought 40 coach/60 players but after that first half even I am starting to think it may be 50/50.

Nevertheless, I still remain very sceptical about the players we've signed, outside Galbraith and Burgess. I'm still not convinced a different coach makes much difference on that front.

What frustrates me most is the aimless long balls into the channel all the time, so negative and predictable.

I think you are definitely correct that one of our biggest issues is we do not have a clear plan/style.

It’s my opinion only but I’m not a fan of changing the way we play based on the opposition.
We set up with Graham Potter & to an extent Russell Martin to dictate the game on our own basis and it’s the only way we’ve been successful during the past 20 years

Pragmatic coaches I.e Sheehan, Cooper, Duff just won’t suit the way a lot of our fans want to see us play.

That first para. Just not seeing the evidence for it.

I do not think this is true. If we maintained the results of the opening months, looking defensively strong and just about eeking out wins I believe the atmosphere on here and in the ground would be euphoric right now. We have a clear plan and style under Sheehan it just is not an effective plan or style.

The unpalatable truth is that football fans - not just ours - will put up with pragmatism if it wins matches, like Cooper did.

Pragmatism will always go down like a cup of cold sick if you're not winning. And that is particularly problematic at our club because, rightly or wrongly, we have unrealistic expectations about the mythical "Swansea Way" (which only accounts for about 15% of our entire existence as a football club mind).

I think Sheehan is out of his depth and is making panic decisions. My opinion is that he is a defensive coach hence 1st 12 games gaining 16 points but not creating much and the football was boring. I'm don't think that he is going to be able to turn this around unfortunately. This group of talent we have can do so much better, with a better coach who plays them in the right positions and stops giving Cullen minutes.

I think it's difficult to judge players when we change the staring XI so often.

Outside of Galbraith and Burgess (our two brightest sparks from the summer) no player has had a run of starts to be able to nail down their ability.

When you're buying young players who haven't played in England before they need playing time and patience - something Vipotnik has benefitted from.

The fact that Cooper got us into the play offs twice and a large majority (not all) were happy when he left speaks volumes

Agreed, players need a run in the team, especially new signings.

The early season promise of Galbraith has dropped off.
