It's looking likely he will be coming in. As he is in advanced talks.

Maybe it's the Hellberg saga, but this feels flat and underwhelming.

Either way, prove us all wrong Matos and let's get behind him if he takes the job.

This is all that I can find about his role at Anfield:

Matos was appointed in October 2019 and has overseen the transition of players from the Academy to first team. The Portuguese coach was previously B team Assistant at Porto. His role has been key at Anfield because of the conveyor belt of homegrown players making their way into Klopp's senior side.

It’s a huge gamble. I hope it pays off.

Maybe that's the key, he has a way to get players who are unproven to be ready. Might be something we was missing. Who knows. As I said I'm trying to find positives in this. We have no choice and it would be wrong for me to overly judge. I have to have faith in the club. They have the research and know how.

He’s an obvious choice for assistant.

Not as number one.

He may turn out to be the next Roberto Martinez for us. I don’t think there’s anything in his managerial stats/data to suggest he’s going to be good or bad so he must have impressed our decision makers with something else we don’t know about

The only people that can probably give us a good opinion on him is the ones who have worked directly with him, or the ones who have spoken to him at length about what he can bring to this club

Everyone on this forum have no idea what he could bring.

But I agree with everyone it is a huge risk to bring in someone with so little experience, even if he has impressed in interviews. For a club so heavily influenced by data, I have no idea what has attracted us to Matos

Everyone wanted Chris Davies with no managerial experience at all.
We had roberto with no managerial experience.
Brendan’s reputation after reading & Watford was in the bin.
Every managerial appt is a risk - I would rather matos than Martin and many others.
Just because a manager has experience doesn’t make them a good appt.
I for one will be getting behind him and I hope all swans fans do the same , but having seen the posts already on this thread , I doubt this will unite our fan base.

I want to acknowledge that like with every managerial appointment, especially for an unknown, there is a chance it can go well and be a success. But this is a crazy choice and I fear we are not doing it for the right reasons. He has been very active in the media building his reputation and it feels like we are basing it more on that and hearsay than any track record as a coach, just like Klopps other assistant who failed when he became a manager in Austria or the coach who just got sacked by Ajax. Maritimo have had an okay start to the season but do not look like they have been an exceptional team and they are playing against kids teams as a newly relegated side with a big budget.

It can not be a coincidence that he managed to have this interview article written about him full of praise and suddenly he is in line for our job a couple of days later when we know he was not in line when it was first published. I worry our inexperienced team have been duped by a media creation and have rushed into a decision because it is a simple one to complete and they were let down by Hellberg. I hope I am wrong and people can point and laugh about this in a years time.

All that being said at least it is not Martin.

Recruitment people inexperienced in the role. Data driven analysis.

I hope he does brilliantly, obviously. Nothing to get excited or be pleased about though. Happy days.
