Odd post.

The lad has just landed in a different country playing in a very robust competitive league.

Saying he has the potential to succeed at his age isn’t jumping the gun at all,

It would be an odd post if taken out of context, which you have.

No ones disputing Widell has the potential to be a good player for us. But currently it cant be claimed he is already a success - which is what tree posted. You've actually provided a few valid mitigating factors in your post as to why he isn't yet a successful signing.

Haven't proved anything at pal.

The lad is very much a work in progress.

In my view, what fans deem a success and what the club deem a success are very different things. Club has to take a long term view of the players they bring in and they are clearly extremely happy with what they have seen from them.

Widdell already looks a success. Compare him now to his first appearances. The boy has grown in confidence.

Not aimed at you but all the negativity surrounding new signings - let's not kid ourselves, is definitely a personal rather than a recruitment issue. Its becoming clearer every day.

If you posted that and all our (pricey) summer signings were starting most weekand we were just in the top 10 (to be conservative), then id agree.

Sheehan didn't play a lot of the signings and in our most recent game (v top of the league), Matos only started 3, so the football management side of it aren't convinced. But if the owners are promoting Worth, I agree they must be convinced. To me, the proof is in the pudding, we're 4 points off relegation past half way and to me, the only success is Galbraith, others could become so.

Your last paragraph may or may not be true but that cause would be helped if the majority of the signings had positively contributed and team was performing well. But the facts show they aren't. If the opposite was true the agenda people wouldn't have a leg to stand on. But they do.

The players signed at this level will always come with an element of risk. During his short tenure Matos has shown us with some of the performances that they can come good for us.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what any one of them do it's going to be held against them because they were recommended and signed by a bloke who upset a few on an internet forum.

It's like pushing water uphill.

Doesn't matter what any of the summer signings do in a Swansea shirt, one or two will continue to write them off because of some petty grievance held against the person responsible for signing.

Also factor in the same people don't like admitting when they're wrong.

Recruitment isn’t judged on league position, management is. Half the team isn’t even the team he has recruited mun! So he cant be held responsible for their performances.

I also disagree that our summer signings were that expensive. Average it out per player. A lot of clubs have spent our summer spend on one single player.

I also disagree that Galbraith is the only success. Burgess has been a mainstay starter, Casey and Ishe Smith have been excellent for what they have been brought in to do, Melker and Stamenic look very good already an Inoussa and Idah have showed good promise but are clearly still finding their feet.

The only non success I would say is Benson. Which i reckon is good going in comparison to what is expected from a usual recruitment department return.

We signed a squad because the squad was so thin. It’s disingenuous to pretend they were all brought in to be first teamers.

The last paragraph is definitely true, no doubt about it and you can tell that by sentiment outside of the same handful of accounts online being very happy with the players we have.

The obsession with this bloke is fascinating but ridiculous at the same time.

That's been an issue, signing players who we see as future assets rather than building a team to compete. Matos even suggested himself about building a team.

I would have a bit of sympathy if the instructions were to identify players with re sale value rather than players to make a team capable of being competitive in this league. I think it's been said that our model is about re sale so they need to have a sit down and try to find a balance that works if things don't improve with the new coaching team and players.

Food for thought, I wonder what a player like Bamford would have done in our team and I'm thinking on the chances that VIP and Cullen had on the weekend. This is maybe where a DOF with experience in the football world would come in handy.
Matos was talking about the mentality and team ethic, not the players itself and this is a coaching thing. He said we need to play more as team, which we are doing, with those same players. Top half form since he came in and that’s where we should be. Short term thinking is what killed us under Watson and as a major issue which we are still reeling from as I said in post previously.

We can’t spend millions on ready made players in their prime because we rely on a trading model. We are not going to get instant success here, if success is play offs, it is what it is.

Let’s hope we never have someone in charge who thinks spending 45k a week on a 32 year old Bamford is good business for our club either mate.

What you and Mama (see previous post) have said sums up the situation perfectly.

If anyone disagrees with these posts, I'd question their rationale.

And with Benson, that could have been a stroke of Genius had he found his earlier form!
They don’t all work out

To be fair, I said someone like Bamford.
I was suggesting an experienced striker who knows where the net is......a return of 5 goals in 8 matches has greatly helped Sheffield Utd.

Bamford comes as a package. Included in that package is a healthy weekly salary that will be beyond our means.

If you don’t want to be specific about Bamford then swap his name for any other established Premier League striker with international experience, in the twilight years of their career.
