A parting of the ways would be the sensible option for both parties. If he puts in a few more shifts between now and then like last night it would be a fitting way to end his

Always a much better player than his detractors will admit. As FoaJP alludes, he was often blamed entirely for what happened whenever he was paired with Captain Marvel.

300+ games for the club in the top two divisions of English football is worthy of a hell of a lot more respect than he gets. Been a solid presence for us since joining and I would not be remotely surprised to see his stay extended.
As far as VM is concerned, the same applies, as
when any other new manager is employed, everyone starts with a clean sheet.
If that manager then likes what he sees in a player, he normally has a say in whether that player is kept on, or let go.
Time will tell

I have a habit which annoys me (and maybe others) of repeating words in posts, so if I notice myself doing it I will substitute them for words with similar or identical meanings. "Occasionally" and "Sometimes" are perfect examples.

The point stands. If his good games were as infrequent as you claim he wouldn't have spent as long at this level as he has. He wouldn't have been as regular a pick for basically every manager he's had since he joined the club.

It's something I've noted elsewhere, but the only Swansea manager who has ever made a concerted effort to get rid of him was Russell Martin, and he's a complete fuckwit.
Jay for me is a player who has been damaged by years of coaching from managers who couldn't tell their asses from their elbows. Going from the "process" to Duffball to whatever the hell Williams's gameplan was (if there was one) and finally Sheehan's ultra defeatist defensive approach have not done him any favours whatsoever.

Years back I was a big defender of Fulton, and I still think the red in the playoff final was both extremely harsh and had a big psychological impact on him as a player, he was never the same after that. He always reminded me of a baseball player who gets the "yips" as they called it when they accidentally hit a batter with the ball and then have a psychological block against pitching inside near the batter's chest afterwards.

He never got over it, he knows that his style of play is the aggressive terrier ball winning type of midfielder but he almost always gets the level of aggression wrong, either giving up needless yellow cards within minutes of coming on or standing off players too much. Combine that with losing all positional sense after two years of Williams coaching and its no surprise that he is the "escaped goat" for many fans which does include myself.

Is it his fault the club offered him a big contract on relatively big wages and that he has increasingly just become a squad player with usually substitute or rotational appearances only?

No it's not. I try to be fair and balanced in my appraisals of players but no one is ever completely unbiased all of the time and we all have our favourites that we will forgive more of and view through rose tinted lenses.

Fulton like Cooper is a middling L1 player and that's now his level. Undoubtedly he will be kept on as an old boy eventually being on the coaching staff.

Experience in a squad is a necessity if you want to bring through young professionals but that experience comes at a price. Jay will rarely be one of the first names on the team sheet but will be called upon when the fixtures are congested.
As has been mentioned there is no doubt he has been messed around / mismanaged by previous head coaches and its not his fault he was given a very good contract, but the argument against him being given another deal is that whatever his wages are would be better aimed at younger professionals who hopefully be on the team sheet almost every game.

This is a bit like the original Grimes thread from a while back. A whole load of chatter over a distinctly average, beige footballer.

We have managed to get rid of one of the deadly duo (Grimes) responsible for some of the most tediously boring football in recent years, now please please please can we finally get rid of the other one (Fulton) at the end of the season while we have the opportunity.

Love him or hate him - here are two conflicting objective facts
1 Grimes is skippering the runaway leaders of ouf league - and plays every minute
2 The cash we received for selling Grimes almost exactly covered yhe cost of buying both of Stamenic and Galbraith
The band aid needed to be ripped off - and as a Swans fan we are better for it
Almost the perfect win-win

He has a lot of potential this Fulton player 🤣🤣.. Joking aside. I said it in the week, he will sign a year contract next year. As Matos seems to like him and what he brings.
