I applied for a new passport yesterday and the online form said to post the old passport back by recorded delivery.
I put it in an envelope a couple of millimetres bigger than the passport and took it the post office earlier,I handed it to the woman behind the counter and said that I wanted it sent recorded.
She said something and I said £5.35?
She replied no £9.35.
I said £9.35?
She replied yes £9.35.
I asked are you winding me up?
She said what do you mean?
I said it’s £9.35 to send that letter?
She said yes so I paid it and left the shop.

I was absolutely stunned. £9.35 to send one letter the size of a passport.
Utter fucking extortion.

Last year I had to get a passport renewed in a hurry so paid for the appointment service, also went for the bigger version at same time, and that came to a grand total of £219.50. The £9.35 I saved on postage was spent on fuel getting to Newport.

£14 for a packet of cigarettes is surreal. I dont know how anyone affords to do anything these days. I dont drink or smoke or go out to eat and I can barely scrape by.

Having a passport is an absolute luxury. We should be marching on the streets about the cost of our utility bills. It is absolutely criminal.

That’s a long way from buying 10p singles on the way to school.

Its exactly 2 years and 8 days since quitting smoking, I had a lightbulb moment, when the lady in the shop handed over my packet of 20 and said that'll be £19 pounds please, from that moment I thought fvck that, I've saved a small fortune in those 2 years.👍

15 months for me. Same as you, saved an absolute mint.

20 years for me after I paid £50 to see a hypnotist.
21 years this year but I think the hypnotist I saw was £45

I am also hugely shocked to read the post above that a pack of 20 is now £19
