Zan Vipotnik

It’s been seen many times before that a club, the swans included, sell their ‘best player’ for big money, reinvest wisely then actually improve and move up a level.
That takes a lot of knowhow (and also some luck) in the transfer market. This Vip situation will be a big test for the recruitment team if we sell him. Get it right and we end up with a team full of Galbraith-calibre players…….get it wrong and we end up with a bang average team with no goalscorer.
It’ll be an interesting summer!
Snap 👍

😂 no it's not, it came from the guy who cuts Cullen's hair.
Could well be rubbish but he's either been told it by Cullen or another player
Cullen can always offer a few pointers as to what's happening at the club.

Not sure what his wages are. He would undoubtedly get more elsewhere based on his current stock. I think he goes in the summer more likely to one of three who come down.

I can't see rangers paying the going rate for the championship top goal scorer whos still got time to run on contract.

Footballing wise we absolutely shouldn't sell if the club wants to progress but it depends on ffp. We haven't had a hefty sale in a while now so it maybe required. Depends on what other players we could sell or the fabled big sponsorship deals on the horizon.

The likes of Brentford sold and reinvested while being successful and getting promoted so onus on the recruitment team to identify replacements. He will definitely need replacing.

Brentford sold Ollie Watkins and invested that money to bring in Ivan Toney and a number of other players to supplement their squad. The reality is that most clubs are selling clubs, what matters is how you reinvest, bringing in the right players who can continually improve the team.

That is something we have struggled to get right even up until a couple of years before our relegation.

Selling Vip is probably how it should go if we’re serious about operating a buy low (in this case nothing) and sell high model. Whatever we get for him will be a profit for us.

The other side of that is, if we want to become a more ambitious club then selling our better players isn’t always going to help us achieve that.

In this case I think selling while his value is at its highest is the right move. If we were moving upwards and it felt like a promotion challenge was happening next season I’d say keep Vipotnik but as it stands it’s probably going to take one or two more seasons to get to that point so the money we can make from him is probably more valuable.

I like VP though, it’ll be sad to see him move on.

If we receive an offer of £12m+ then selling should be a no-brainer. It's how the club has to run. Reinvest that money into 3 or 4 more players of similar age and potential profile. Rinse and repeat for a few years and we'll hopefully reach the stage where the number of good players significantly outnumber the need to sell one or two each summer. Much like Brentford did at this level. Scouting has to be much more hit than miss, though.

Aye, we bought current premier league failures Bony and Ayew back for the balance of what we were paid for them and replaced Sigurdsson with Clucky. Football genius, right there.

If we had to sell Vipi or Galbraith (a choice we may yet have to make), who would you sell?
Tough to say, I feel that VP's ceiling is lower than Galbraith's but we won't see Galbraith's full potential while he has to combat Stamenic for that place at the base of the midfield and is stuck as our best right back - an issue I hope the club will aim to remedy in the summer (likely in the form of Lissah but we shall see).
