Of course. But it’s not unreasonable to expect more than one assist and no goals from a player that has been playing a position in the team where climbing trees is pretty much the primary aim.

If your point is that the club have signed a stupid number of fish and no one capable of climbing a tree despite climbing trees being what gains us points then that’s a bigger problem in many ways.

And leaving the analogies aside, Widell is hardly a defensive midfielder.

This is the problem. We have a number of players that run around in the middle, looking busy, but not contributing to the scoresheet at either end.

No marks for artistic endeavour.
What is he being asked to do? What is his role? To me he’s the same as Franco, break up play, and get the ball moving. I’m not suggesting that him not scoring goals is great but I don’t believe that’s his primary role.

And having said that, he’s been very unlucky not to score on a number of occasions, couple of inches and he’s on 4 or 5 for the season.

I also think he’s doing the same role as Franco.

Who has 3 goals and 4 assists, highlighting the issue with Widell.

And actually scoring as opposed to nearly scoring is the difference between good players and not good players.

As I said, he needs to improve next season.

It's a headache I imagine for Matos. Nunes played well the match before while Ronald as been declining. Then Nunes then goes and performs pretty bad.
Accepted.
I just thought that at that point in the game whoever played on the right of midfield was going to need to do his defensive duties probably more than his attacking ones.

What do we have next season with Walta Innoussa Idah and Widdel?
I expect that group to take a leap forward - and (if they do) we really could become both exciting to watch and hard to play against.

Inoussa is a very bad buy, he looks the real deal on the halfway line, but when it comes to the business end of the pitch he is just simply awful, he even makes Ronald look good. Walta looks out of his depth at the moment, but it's early days for him.

At this moment in time, these three players look like huge flops, I would not pin your hopes on these players. Zero championship goals with these players, which is a shocking stat if you add up all their minutes, these players are attack minded players.

The stats for most of our attacking players are shocking, we have had 5 wingers this season , Eom, Ronald, Inoussa, Benson and Nunes and they , between them, have come up with a paltry tally of goals and assists. Vipotnik goals have single handedly saved us from being in the relegation mix this season. Widell is another player that needs to be contributing more in the goals and assists column , and also we are not getting any goals from set pieces out of our 2 big centre halfs. We have to be better in the loan market with players, most of them at best are squad players and certainly haven't improved the starting XI , which really they should be doing .

The problem a lot of these players have had is a lack of consistency. When fit, Inoussa was in and out of the side. One week starting, one week getting five minutes off the bench, next week not playing at all. The Championship is arguably one of the hardest, most difficult leagues in the world to adapt to, so what are people expecting?

Same story with Walta. He came here basically in pre-season for him and again his chances have been bitty as hell. He's not going to get the hang of the pace of this league without playing in it. I think Matos could probably be giving him a bit more of a chance (despite everything he's unlikely to contribute less than Cullen usually does), but overall I'm expecting him to show more next season.

Widell is getting regular games now and the progression is obvious. What he needs is a run in his proper position, because a winger he is not. He's definitely more of an 8, which makes him direct competition to Franco.

There comes a point when you have given them enough time to adapt and you have to question their ability at this level. What is an adequate amount of time to adapt, one month, three months, one season. With Inoussa and Widell, I don't see top level championship level players.
