The exciting thing for us is we were after him in January long before the hype train. If we can spot someone like that playing right back earlier than others, then who else can we spot!

Widell was signed under a Williams regime where he played a 10, Cullen usually. We play two 8’s under Sheehan.

I have zero doubt we will be seeing Widell this season once he gets up to speed. Players take different amounts of time.

With strength and conditioning coaches would be my guess. He’s far too good to be playing U-23 football and will be shocked if he ever does. Inoussa plays a different position than Melker, you can be a bit lightweight as a winger, in the middle it’s a different ball game.

Widell hasn’t been sent to the U23’s has he? I’ve not seen that anywhere. I don’t think anyone expected Wales to come here and be a starter, I didn’t anyway. He’s a project.

There is a direct correlation though. Take the top 5 and bottom 5 of every league and the top 5 will have combined larger squad value than bottom 5. I would guess that the reverse has never happened.

I would guess they are looking at the whole picture, including his overall performance as Swansea manager in his 30 odd games. His points accumulated must be very high.

The league is better this year, you can tell by the amount spent elsewhere. Two of the three clubs coming up from League One both have greater spending power than most of the league, that’s never happened before. Whilst the club has spent money this summer it’s only to play catchup. We had one...

Yalcouye only on loan until January? Where did you read this?

Depends what people view mid table as. I think top 10 this season and pushing for playoffs next season would be the expectation. This year was always going to be about integrating such a high player turnover for me.

Yalcouye has been very good, he’s 19 years old so isn’t going to be playing every single 90 mins, it’s like he starts every other game. I would have started him against Leicester but he obviously wanted to get the messaging right and reward Cullen for his recent goal and assist off the bench.

Stamenic is fantastic in my view, but hasn’t quite looked at it since his injury. I do wonder if he’s still feeling the effects of that. I’m shocked people are talking about him as if he’s just muscle in the middle. He’s technically excellent, his issue of late is he hasn’t been sensing pressure...
