Strikers

You can make a case for Vipotnik to an extent but when you compare him to Piroe, who made a lot of his goals for himself, you realise how awful he is. Top strikers should be able to find a way to impact games in some capacity, even if the rest of the side isn't quite set up as they might like. It's excuse making to talk about the lack of delivery. He's like a statue mun.

Ffs move around more, run a bit, try and work the channels, drop deep to try and link play, try some different stuff. Look at yourself first, ask what more you could be doing. It's not too much to ask.
Very different kinds of strikers.

Piroe is excellent at making half a yard for himself and finding the corners. I think he scored a total of two goals with his head for us, but he was also great at dropping deep and bringing others into play with distribution. On the flipside he was awful at competing in the air and with his general hold up play.

Vipotnik is almost the opposite in all regards, he will always battle and compete for balls in the air and has good strength when it comes to holding up the ball. He can give it simple but he is not the player to then turn on a dime and thread through a killer pass for someone else. Instead he has a cannon in both his left and his right boot and will stick his nut in to go for a cross even when he knows he will get clattered after.

The biggest problem right now is that we barely provide the poor bastard with any service whatsoever, we ping in crosses constantly when he is not on the pitch but when he is we revert to intricate little plays trying to walk the ball into the net. It absolutely boggles the mind.

Fair enough, but if he is this strong battling battering ram type you talk of, well I've not seen it in any of the games I've watched. Perhaps he was that at his previous club, because he hasn't been that here.

I never said he was a battering ram, I said he will always compete. He will win his fair share in the air (and he usually does but theres no one else within like 20 yards of him to get onto anything he does win). Playing hopeful long balls into the channel or punting it into the air and not getting around him is utterly pointless. He needs players who will provide overlaps for the wingers or create diagonal runs so that we can get behind the defence and then either play it across goal or cut it back for him or Cullen to then finish those chances.

Yesterday the 2 strikers were just fakes. They were purely wingers out of position. If you are doing that as a manager/.head coach you have lost the plot. Its not new as Swans did not even play Joel as a striker but mostly as RA.M. Faced with a choice between Lowe and Gykores we went for Lowe. Classic!
I am not running the club down just offering a suggestion about using strikers because that's where the best goatsuckers usually play.

It's the worst pool of "strikers" in the division, that's what it is. Last time we had a pool of forwards as bad as this, Nick Cusack was in charge.
I don't think you have to go back that far. The current lot look like world-beaters compared to Paulo Sousa's strikers during his one season:

- Shefki 'misses open goals' Kuqi
- Craig '£800k for a player who'd never scored more than 5 goals in a season' Beattie
- Gorka 'couldn't hit a bull's arse' Pintado
- Guillem 'lovely bloke but not good enough for League 1 let alone the Championship' Bauza
- Lee 'was probably never good enough for this level, but the best of a bad bunch' Trundle

There was also Dobbie, but Sousa clearly didn't rate him and barely played him before loaning him off to Blackpool, who he subsequently helped to promotion. He was also more of a support striker/number 10 rather than a goalscorer.

Our top scorer that season was Pratley from midfield with a whopping 7 goals.

I'd still take any one out of that list of 5 over anything we have right now.

Dobbie is exactly the kind of player that Vipotnik needs to play off.

Piroe was equally capable of being anonymous for long periods, even with the luxury of Paterson playing behind him. Who has Vip had?
