It is abundantly clear that the players had quit on Williams quite some time ago.

I don’t know if it was the West Brom nonsense or what, but something definitely went on. Before the Portsmouth game we’d been doing fine. 10 points from the last 5 games. We went from not losing by more than a single goal all season to getting thrashed by teams in the relegation zone every week.
