So why oh why does the manager persist in picking him there.
Its not Cullens fault he is doing what he is being asked to do despite not having all the artributes for that role....then he gets us fans hacing a go. whilst the manager gets no criticism
Well yes that is a question, playing Cullen up top especially against a big defence like today does make one wonder what the plan was, we know Cullen can press etc but he's not a 9 so sheehan must have a reason, no faith in Vip perhaps but the situation makes it clear a new striker is pretty much essential to make the team complete and give us a chance of a top 10 finish this season

It was utterly futile. The front three individually and as a collective were dog food (apologies Monmouth).

Fair bit of projection on this thread. Vipotnik took his chance superbly after coming off the bench on 80ish mins when we were chasing the game.

But let's not pretend he's shown anything to suggest he'd be capable of playing up front from the start for a potential 90mins against decent championship sides.

Cullen we know is no hold guy but his all round game and work rate is (despite Vipotnik's goal) streets ahead.

Maybe we should start Vipotnik next week against a weak Wednesday side and go from there.

Fair point. Cullen busts a gut fair play to him. He’s no Harry Kane though and should play deeper running into the box. Would give us some threat through the middle.

Edit: Kane does both.

Cullen is a decent player if played correctly and correct position........a striker he is not.

Too often on his heels and wants the ball played to his feet.
League 1, as is Ronald, current Key, probably Eom, VIP, Cooper, and Fulton. Any pretensions toward the pointy end of the league, they all need replaced.

2 in 2 now... thanks for making me look a right Jeremy Hunt, Mr Vipotnik!!
We knew he can shoot, he’s done that before, we know he can score now and again. That doesn’t make him the player we need. The decision needs to be based on more than two goals in two games. Cullen can score now and again too, but he’s not what we need, and I’d gamble, neither is Vipotnik. That said, it’s better than not scoring.

I know, my post was somewhat tongue in cheek but I'm doing a goal based rain dance hoping its the first of many...

Leave Cullen out for the Plymouth game, play Vip as a centre forward with Wales & Inoussa as the wide players.
Hopefully we'll sign a striker before the Sheffield game.
I agree with you, but I'd risk a sizeable sum betting that Sheehan selects Cullen in front of Vip next Saturday.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but VP looks like a player who is playing to prove something and Cullen nerves look shot. He was useless once again tonight and gave ball away. To be fair to VP he had hardly any service tonight. It would be bit of a back hand if Cullen starts on Saturday, but wouldn't be surprised.

Neither Cullen or Vip are what we need now imo. There’s a lot of opinion that Cullen isn’t a striker, but even then I don’t think he’s close to the top of the pecking order in deeper positions.

We need to get rid of we want to improve, and I would say we’re pushing Vip out at the expense of Cullen in error at this time. Sheehan’s reaction when Vip bashed his goal in last night was very telling as he looked up to the stands.

What does your last sentence mean? What was he looking at?
