On this site?

Looking to upgrade mine need a few suggestions.
Get yourself to a decent music shop and try as many as possible. If it doesn’t feel right it’s not the right one. Also depends on what amp you use, check for the tone you get from the pickups.
What do you use at the moment?

I'm gigging with the Ibanez Sr300 which is okay but the tone sounds too jazzy whatever settings I use on the bass and amp

Obviously price is a big consideration, Fender maybe or if money is no object a Rickenbacker. 👀
Squier and Epiphone are said to be excellent, I have an Epiphone Les Paul Gold Top guitar and the quality is very good. Bass is not my thing and I see a lot of players at the jazz club but as you’ve said you’re not looking for a jazzy sound.

Great choice. None of this 12 string bollox!

Have a look at a Yamaha-arguably best bang for your buck for guitars and basses. If you want something very different have a look at a Gretsch which have a shorter scale but look very classy. The other left field option is a Hagstrom

After a good session in the store trying multiple brands. I settled on the Yamaha BB434 which incidentally is used by Richard Jones of the stereophonics so was good to test it against one of their tracks.

Thanks all for your advice.
