Budget November 2025

Yes it will, but the wealthier you are, the more you are disproportionately exposed to unearned income.

By definition, pensioners are only exposed to additional tax on interest income that comes from savings in excess of the £20k cash ISA per annum allowance.
Oh thats ok then  why do you think they've saved, they've saved because they'll struggle to live once they reach retirement age with bills the way they are, people who have worked hard for 45 to 50 yrs want to enjoy their retirement and not struggle and their don't deserve to either, these people should be looked after and they are clearly not!

20grand is fukall these days. Bottom line is that pensioners shouldn't have to pay tax, on savings or any earnings.
Those with plenty haven't worked anything like 40/50 yrs I'd suggest.

Unfortunately Max, you are talking real world issues, folk can throw facts and figures where ever they want, it ain't going to change what's happening on the streets. Food banks, people who cant pay for gas and electric, food bills through the roof, youngsters who have no hope of getting on the property ladder, ordinary working folk being screwed for ever penny and some. Child poverty, dont even get me started on that. Its fvckin shocking, and when they saw a glimmer of hope, the switch has been turned off. Billions and billions being spunked away, on anything and everything other than helping folk in this country. That's the reality, fvcking tampin. Governments past and present, not worth a w**k.

Point 1. Yep, as Lisa tried to point out. I can’t remember the figures but it’s something like top 1% contribute about 40% of the total tax take, and they are very mobile. They do need to pay more (as the wealth gap is still hugely disproportionate, but it needs to carefully thought through and was never going to happen this time).

Point 2. Absolutely, and freedom of movement, but people are too thick and politicians too scared to actually have an adult argument.
Absolutely.

Capital is so mobile these days, punitive taxes in yesteryear although arguably damaging could be sustained not now.

And yes I suppose my customs union point is more related to pragmatism. Baby steps in the direction of sanity.

Are you living in the real world ffs they've gone back on every promise they've made, ffs
Don't bother replying cause I've no interest in your drawn out opinions.
Short response sorry. What have they gone back on promise wise?

Or are you just swallowing what you’re being told like a good little boy

Some of the “opinions” on here are laughable. Literally zero answers just moaning.

it reminds of the Harry and Paul piss take of question time.

“Why doesn’t the government just sort it out”

Yeah great idea well done lads

Ah. So pensioners, who are the wealthiest generation that have ever lived should pay no tax and struggling young people bringing up kids, with small hopes of ever enjoying the wealth current pensioners have and won’t be able to afford to buy a house, should?

It’s £20k per annum. Just into ISAs.

So people who can afford to save an additional £20k every year on top of their living expenses. And they’re the ones who shouldn’t pay tax?

Right.

And let’s forget the MASSIVE black hole that would create in public finances.

The inequity between the generations is the real challenge of our times.

The triple lock should be scrapped for one.

“I’ve paid in all my life” such an entitled group. Many of the women never worked for one!

You're absolutely spot on.

Unfortunately - and it's been slowly heading this way for several decades now - we are hurtling towards having an American-style society where there are only two types of people: people who have, and people who don't.

Where if you're struggling it's because of your own personal failure and lack of personal responsibility, not because of decades of governments introducing laws and policies to worsen life for the majority to the benefit of the minority.

Private healthcare is coming, whether we like it or not. I watched TV yesterday and in one ad break I saw no less than 3 ads for 3 different private healthcare providers. My instinctive reaction was what's the point in that, we've got an NHS. But then it's obvious when you think about it isn't it. It's a slow creep thing. No government can come out and say bollocks to the NHS it doesn't work properly anymore and isn't fit for purpose (which is true) because it's a guaranteed polling booth disaster. So we have this awkward compromise where most people won't hear a word against the NHS whilst an increasing number of people see the adverts, then go private, because of the NHS's failings. It's only heading one way. Wes Streeting would junk the NHS tomorrow if he thought he could get away with it, he's on record about how much he loves private healthcare.

If Reform get in though, then this country is going to get finished off once and for all because they will take us further and further down the US route of low paid and precarious employment with next to no worker rights (which is already starting to happen anyway), more privatisation of public services to fill the pockets of their pals, private healthcare to replace the NHS (can't afford it? Tough titty, your problem), whilst continuing to further the demonisation of immigrants to make sure that thickos can continue to blame the wrong people for it all.

But hang on. This budget has done, imperfectly, but tried, to do something about some of the inequality (which is, I agree, an absolute scandal) and those you are agreeing with have done nothing but moan.

This government, for all its poor so far, aren’t the ones that have caused this.

That's not what the daily mail says.
