Ok, here's the thing. I flew out of Gatwick on Sunday morning early for 11 nights in Nerja. Parked my new car Kia Sportage GT Line S at the long stay car park.

On arrival I had an alert on my Kia app that my alarm had been triggered. I check the details on the app and saw that the doors were locked and the bonnet and tailgate were closed.

I have since had several (12) alerts. I've contacted the car park operator who said they would send someone to have a butchers but not heard back from them.

I'm not concerned about the car being stolen as it's a secure area and I've fitted a Krooklock. I can unlock the doors remotely to stop the alarm but they will auto lock after 30 seconds.

My concern is that when I get back next Thursday my battery will be flat due to the repeated alarm triggers. I am trying to find out how many triggers will it take to run the battery down.

Despite getting an A at physics A level in 1976, I've never really understood electrics and the relationship between amps watts and volts.

I have read that a typical car battery when fully charged holds a minimum of 400Ah. I understand that the car alarm when triggered draws 4A and runs for 30 seconds.

So please tell me if my logic is correct or whether I'm talking bobbins. If the alarm is triggered 120 times that's 1 hour of alarm at 4A and it has depleted the battery by 4Ah.

If that's right, my battery should have plenty left when I get home.

Thoughts?

Chill, enjoy the holiday, if you don't have it, take out recovery.

I would also unlock the doors and let them lock again if it were me. Mine has gone a bit doolally once or twice in the last few years and that always fixes it.

Ta, Monny. I have recovery and I have tried the unlock thing too!

Are you north or south terminal long stay?
We are south so if you want me to swing by when we leave on Friday night I will happily do so, will need a zone number and an idea of where to look.

Wow Coops, that's so kind, but I don't want to put you out. I'm in long stay Gatwick South, Zone B. I'm nosed into the perimeter fence and behind me to the left is Bus Stop 5. It's a dark grey Kia Sportage. Don't worry if you don't manage it.

Current theories on why the alarm keeps going off

1. A window, door or tailgate are not actually shut properly (despite what my app tells me) and it's the wind that's making the alarm trip. I'm not sure if it will be obvious whether any window is slightly open, and even if it is there wouldn't be anything you can do as the key needs to be present for the windows to operate. Ditto the sunroof and tailgate. If a door is not quite shut you may be able to close it, but you may need it to be unlocked. I can do that remotely.

2. There is a fault - blimey Kia it was only registered in September and hasn't covered 800 miles yet. It's going back in a week or so's time for a different issue so if needs be I'll get them to investigate.

3. There's a large fly or bee flying around inside the car. Well maybe it will pop it's clogs soon and that will solve the problem!

Thanks once again. If you think it might help I'll PM my phone number

Right’o. I think we are zone C and bus stop 6.
We don’t land until 22:55 so that’s basically midnight your time, so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me on Friday evening. I will drive or even walk there if I have to and check the obvious and also if you’ve got a flashing LED for the alarm (have you noticed one?).

Just realised Friday is tomorrow 😫 that means we are coming home.

Yes, send me your mobile and I can then message you.

Also, up to you legoman, but if it was me I’d take off the personal info i.e. number plate etc and send it to Coops via PM - never know what weirdos are lurking.

Excellent, thank you my friend! I've only had the car a week before I came away so I have no experience of whether there is a flashing LED to signify an alarm trigger. I'll research it and find out.

Don't worry about contacting me at that time of night, I'm sleeping so badly at the moment I'm often still awake at 2am here! If you feel it necessary, WhatsApp me when you are there. If it's a door I can remotely unlock then relock once you've opened and closed the offending door.

I'll PM you my number. Thanks once again it is most appreciated!

Good point re the registration number and I did wonder as I typed it out! I have edited them post now.
