• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler
    Owner, jackarmy.net

Best right back?

Jack Swan in their latest edition are asking who was best out of Whyndham, Connor, Rangel or Naughts.

Whyndham was before me yet is probably the right answer. Out of the rest, I enjoyed watching Rangel the most.

Like you, I'm too young to comment on Wyndham. Of the 3 modern era players, Rangel is the clear winner even though I like the other two.

In terms of performances for us, then Rangel is the best right back we’ve had in my supporting days (since the late 80s) by quite a long way.

Honourable mention to Des Lyttle for that one season mind!

Des Lyttle was a fantastic right back in that 1 season for us.
Lyttle was signed originally as a midfielder and if I remember was originally meant to cover Steve Jenkins as he was injured but made the RB spot his own.

Not sure about the initial details of the signing but Jenkins ended up playing much of that season at left back with Lyttle playing every league game.

Big money sale back in the day at £375k as well 🤣

Had the pleasure of seeing all above mentoned .
Wyndham Evans a Swans legend ,
Played 389 times for the Swans , hard tackling uncomprising a warrior ,
Lilked to get forward .
Played in all four divisions from 4th to 1st .
More comfortable in league 1& 2 .
Under Tosh he was key to winning promotion to the first division .
Tosh went to a back 3 with Speedy and Wyndam centre backs with 19year old
Dudley Lewis as sweeper .
Wyndham another Mr Swansea .

Des Lyttle a signing from non league by
Frank Burrows the most astute manager we have had with his legendry black book .
Lyttle only played one season then sold to Forest .

Angel Rangel the best right back for me .

Joao Moreira! I remember the headline on teletext said ‘Benfica Ace Signs’ then I saw him on his first home game
Been aware of marketing propaganda ever since, he must have been Benfica’s kit man!

I remember finding out that Des Lyttle had been sold by seeing it on the back of the evening post in John Menzies

I remember him, he wasn't too bad, not Benfica levels, though 😂
I was about 11 at the time and went along expecting him to run rings around the opposition. He was a poor man’s Mark Clode! I do remember Clode scoring an absolute screamer in a home game against Port Vale though so standards were high!
