• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Another U21 squad member - Jacob Cook - has enjoyed a loan spell at Connah's Quay Nomads and has been awarded Player of the Year at the North Wales club. Its his first loan period way from the Swansea.com stadium and another youngster who will look forward to pre-season training. Perhaps a bit early to knock on the first team door and no doubt he will be looking for another loan spell hopefully with an EFL club.

Hope Widell gets off the mark Saturday. Considering his chances, I'm surprised he still hasn't opened his account.

Players I would keep are:

  • Vigouroux & Fisher
  • Cabango, Tymon, Parker, Burgess (only because we can't be down to one CB in the building like last year)
  • Franco, Galbraith, Stamenic, Widdell, Walta, Fulton, Eom & Inoussa
  • Vipotnik & Idah (but happy if Idah we sold Idah and recouped what we payed)
I'm assuming the loanees are not returning and Ward is not either.

Personally I think we need to sell Key, Cullen & Ronald.

Also need to move on Cooper, Santos

Farman I have no idea but assume he goes.

That leaves us with a 16 man squad and looking at 9 additions.

Questions that spring to mind are:

Q - How many loanees will come in next season?
A - Lets assume 3 again as a reasonable number

Q - Can we sell Key, Cullen and Ronald and how much would that generate?
A - Hopefully we can and maybe it generates £4m

Q - How many of the players coming back from loan can step up and contribute next season?
A - We won't know until Matos takes a look in pre-season, but let's say 2 (Lissah and Congreve)

Q - If we only generate £4m would we also need need to sell Vipotnik or Galbraith to add 4 more (5 if one of those goes) players to the squad
A - Most likely yes and for me Galbraith is easier to replace, plus I wouldn't want Idah as our no1 striking option.

Will be interesting to see if Matos has connections either at Liverpool or in Portgual that can unearth some quality bargins

We do not have the cash for such a window unless we move on a few players for hefty wedges. We need to be realistic of where we are financially and the rules we need to follow. The squad we currently have can definitely challenge for top 8 next year, so retention and bedding in young talent will be key

The first point is absolutely correct.

Bear8ng in mind the player we will probably have to move on is Vipotnik, the second point is nowhere near unless we can replace his goals.

We have scored 54 goals in the league and he’s scored 23 of them and assisted 3 more.

That’s 28 goals he hasn’t been directly involved with.

That’s nowhere near top 8. It’s pretty much bottom two.

It’s a problem the club will have to deal with early on in the summer. We simply do not score enough.

I would imagine the kind of player profile the club will be heavily looking at barring any notable outgoings:

1. Center half who is comfortable bringing the ball out of defense, playing passes that help to break the opposition press and who is accurate with cross field passes to find wingers early in space before defenders can get too tight to them before they are turning to face the opposition goal. Such a defender also needs to be comfortable in the air in defense

Basically the second coming of Ashley Williams

2. Right winger who has the energy and tenacity to effectively press the defenders when out of possession but also has the pace, skill, confidence and delivery to get past his full back and put in dangerous balls that Vipotnik, Idah or whoever else we bring in should we end up selling VP can attack. Ideally 10+ assists but can also contribute 5-10 goals a season himself from the wide to help share the goalscoring burden.

The former is quite a difficult profile to find and almost always these days is a continental player rather than home grown. And a winger who fits the profile that Matos will want on and off the ball won't come cheap.
