• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

There is a thread with thanks to Phil so how about any special memories of the last 25 years.

There will be plenty of big games but I'll start with a slightly obscure one,

Rushden at home in August 2002.

A 2-2 draw but that was a sideshow, as it was a turning point where the whole ground seem to be chanting "We want Petty OUT"

It seemed strange that there was a game going on in front of us, but our minds were totally elsewhere.

Edit

Yep I got it wrong it was the 0-0 game Nov 2001

I was there but am sure it was 0-0. Brian Talbot was their manager who said it was very difficult to play football with all that was going on. If only I could remember important things... Now, where did I put my keys?

Very brief report - nothing about the protests though, sadly.

In the same vein... John Hollins in the season after promotion trying to calm the North Bank down during another home defeat before beating a hasty retreat. I think it was v Colchester and Lomana Lua Lua scored a stunning goal for them. Most of the ground applauded.

Two different games getting mixed up! The 0-0 was in November 2001 (so peak Petty times), the 2-2 was the first game of the following season and it was absurdly hot!

Bristol City in league 1 we won 7 -1 at the Liberty having only been there a few weeks, I can’t remember who their manager was but he sat in the dug out after the game with his head in his hands for ages. Kevin Mcloed scored a hat trick and that was basically the end of him, Leon Britton also scored, i think i have seen every goal he ever scored for us live.

A game against Swindon that we won 2-1 in about 2010-11 after a headtapper (Christian Roberts??) playing for them, accidentally galvanised the game and the rest of that season, by winding up the East Stand.

Swansea City v Yeovil Town
19th April 2008

It was the first game I took my son to, he wasn’t even three at the time and my wife warned me about keeping him amused for nearly two hours. I didn’t listen of course and was blinded by ‘but I want him to be able to say that he saw the Swans promotion party’. So off we trot with a bag packed full of things to keep him amused, arriving just before KO in order to limit the time sat around. In the fifth minute I was met with “daddy can we go now?”, which I stifled with a bag of teddy bear crisps. After quarter of an hour it was “can I go and see mummy” (who was shopping in the retail park), which I stifled with a Milkybar. After half an hour the grizzle started, which was only partially resolved with a drink. It went downhill from there and he was ejected at half time into the arms of his mum and they trotted off to the shops. As it happened we lost and didn’t secure the title that day. We still laugh at his bad behaviour to this day.

Perfect.
From that day onwards you could say “if you don’t behave yourself I’ll take you to the Swans”.
