An alien would be a rubbish signing and the club should be ashamed.

You telling me doesn’t mean it’s right.

I’d agree with that, those within the game would have a rough idea of transfer + cost to club. Everyone else is just guessing. I was told by someone who would know that the Gylfi fee was nowhere near reported, it relied on a lot of things that never happened. Was still a good fee apparently...

But you don’t know the transfer fees? I haven’t ignored it, I just told you Benson was a poor one. The rest are either back ups, contributing to making us a mid table championship side or showing potential to kick us on (or injured and impossible to tell yet).

I ignore other peoples guesses of transfer fees yes, because headline figures are notoriously inaccurate and don’t take into consideration actual cost to club. I base my judgement on the player on the criteria I set out. Does he help us remain a mid table champ side? does he show he can take...

Critical thought isn’t basing opinions on guesses and ignoring cost to club structures.

No that’s amortisation. A structure is how the total fee is reached, appearances, goals, promotion bonus etc etc The clause that may never be met would be an added bonus, not part of the guaranteed fee. If Celtic only paid a £2 million guaranteed fee wi eh the rest on clauses that weren’t hit...

Exactly. 1. Has the player contributed to making us a mid-table side? If yes then the signing is a decent one as that’s what we are as a club. 2. Has the player shown that he is capable of pushing us even further up the table? If so then that’s a great signing. 3. Has the signing made us...

That is what a structure is, you may be referring to amortisation. How do you know what Celtic paid? They may have had a structure which only cost them £2 million with the rest on clauses. So if we offered them £2 million with another £4 million on clauses (which you then report as £6...

You still don’t know what we paid for him either though. Could have been double, maybe triple. He may have a 100% sell on.

That’s not correct. I just explained how a reported £5 million fee may only cost the club £2 million.

There is no way you can form an opinion on the structure of a deal.

    Melker Widell

There is no way you have any idea what the cost to the club is, even if you think you know the rough headline max fee if all clauses and extras are hit.
  15. T

    Melker Widell

But that’s just it, a guess, and no clue on what the structure of that deal is or the real cost to the club. A £5 million reported transfer may only cost the club £2 million if clauses aren’t hit, even if that £5 million headline figure is accurate. Promotion as a trigger for example. If the...

But you will blame the club even though you have no idea what the deal structure is?

Clubs don’t want accurate fees to get out because then other clubs will know the type of money you have to spend, and receiving clubs lose their bargaining power. The truth is, you don’t know and neither do I, that’s the bottom line.

    Melker Widell

Because they aren’t in the negotiations, when Gorringe was asked he laughed at the fees reported. There is no benefit for the paying or receiving club to give out accurate information on fees and there is no benefit for agents or family members to do that either.

    Melker Widell

No you don’t, you have guesses. Even if the headline figure is right, you don’t know what needs to happen for that to be realised. It may be largely made up of clauses which may never be hit. You are right, I can’t disprove the guesses either, that’s why they are useless to base your judgement on.
