The success we had under Cooper probably allowed him to slip under the radar plus he maybe wasn't so influential in the squad. Flynn Downes did ok in Martin team. For me, Grimes is too slow and ponderous on the ball for the way I like to watch football being played.

The difference between our midfield now compared to the Grimes era is their first intention is to play the ball forward as quickly as possible as opposed to sitting deep between the central defenders, putting their foot on the ball before passing is sideways and backwards constantly.

His stint in the team and in particular as captain have coincided with some of the most boring football I've ever seen played by any team in the history of the game. It's no surprise that performances have improved since the handbrake (Grimes) had been taken off.

It's an interesting debate. The new format would give clubs a lot more encourage and possibly break what seems the endless cycle of the same teams going up after being relegated from Premier League the season prior.

Probably. Depending on how much the severance pay is, I kind of have some sympathy for him. We poached him from a comfortable role at Notts County and then let him go less than 7 months in role. Saying that you need to make the most of the opportunity given to you.
