The L1, L2, and NL Football Thread - The Lower Leagues

Just noticed that Bolton’s home stadium is now called the Toughsheet. Erm…ok. Sounds a bit too much like tough shit for me if I was a trotter.

Entertainment after a hard week in work.

Was going to post something similar, but didn't want to come across holier than thou, especially as I'm no longer in a position to attend games and so it's easy for me to type out the words if I'm not in this position. However, I do agree that entertainment was never a factor for the reasons you...

Not the team I'd pick, but in theory I'm ok with the idea of playing Cullen in midfield as it should at least give us a presence on the pitch in that 'AM' role; The heat map might not be ice cold in that area as it has been so often. I think a Stamenic + Galbraith + No 10 is how our midfield...

The fact that the Pep/Spain possession era directly inspired Russell Martin to become a manager and inflict his take of this style on british football is enough to have Spain stripped of their World Cup and European Championships in my opinion. It's only fair.

    ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED ?

Idah's been here 5 minutes. He still needs GPS to get to the training ground/stadium. I get that he's an irredeemable c*nt for not single-handedly turning us into a purring goal machine in the few minutes he's been here, but maybe give him some time, eh? I'm not a massive fan of the signing if...

Someone made a comment the other day about coaching/recruitment these days being focused more on finding athletes you can coach to play football rather than finding footballers first and foremost, and there might be something to that.

    ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED ?

He absolutely should get till the end of the season, but unfortunately, that's not really how it works anymore. Fan and - increasingly - club owner timelines are much shorter than they used to be. There are countless examples of teams looking really ropey in the first few months and slowly...

This isn't the exact stat you're after, but in the same ball park. I can't believe there are actually 3 teams with fewer shots on target than us so far this season: linky

The changes he made last season to push us further up the pitch and be more aggressive on the ball were really effective and noticeable. It's bizarre how this season we've gone back to living in our own half and being ponderous on the ball. It couldn't have ALL been LOB, right?

It's so maddening to see players get played into space, either out wide or (very rarely for us) centrally and as soon as they come up against the slightest resistance, stop, put their foot on the ball and pass back - usually to a defender - and then stroll off like they've done us all a solid. I...

    Sheehan On Borrowed Time?

He gives the impression of a coach who thinks he has a lot more time than he likely does, and the team reflects that as well in the way we set up and play. It's slow and waiting for things to come to us rather than playing/partying like it's 1999... I have no idea what the owners have told him...

Bet Sheehan is wishing the club pushed harder to get the LOB deal done. I certainly am. Not saying that putting LOB into this team would magically change everything, but we miss that driving presence in the middle of the park. Stamenic, LOB and a No 10. *sigh*

Just a mess of a game really. Tried a tweak to the formation but the players looked out of sorts in it. Then the mess of a red card, then we're up against it being man down and swapping players around again. Never really got going. More effort in the 2nd half, but again, just a mess of a night...

At half-time we might as well have packed up and gone home. We're showing a bit more intent this half, that's all I'm saying.

Better 2nd half - although that was a pretty low bar to get to. At least it feels like we might get something out of the game now.

Honesty, Yalcouye should just not react, but that is a MEGA DIVE from their player and a soft as shit red card.

    NFL 2025

You might even be spared the 'Vrabel Special' curse, as if that was going to happen, yesterday's game was as likely as any. The 'Vrabel Special' when he was in Tennessee was to smoke the Chiefs/Packers/Pats/Baltimore etc - usually on the road, and often more than one such result in a row, then...

    Cam Congreve

Good for him. Always liked him because his style of play is to take people on and have a go; something often lacking in players these days. Whether he’s good enough to do it with us in the Championship I don’t know, but he’s shown enough out on loan to have a decent pro career by the looks of it.
