    Widdell

He's mostly been used on the flanks for us so far so he's getting used to playing in the middle at what is probably a far higher intensity than he's used to. I like what I've seen so far. I particularly like that when he drives forward he does it with his head up looking for the pass.

Gomis was good though. Maybe replacing Laudrup with Monk would be a better comparison.

Which is the point I was making. Every time we sell a player we get people theorising that it would cost just as much to replace them and it never does.

How much did we pay for him in the first place? £3m is obviously way too low though. Bidding starts at £10m.

    Inoussa

His minutes per goal compares quite favourably to most of the other names on the Championship top scorers list. It's not as if we get all that many penalties for him to pad his stats with either.

Managers since he's been here have tended to use him a lot. Not sure why. He looked absolutely mustard when he first arrived, but has flattered to deceive since. Whilst I can't fault his workrate, he doesn't create enough and goes down far, far too easily. Eom is a much better option out wide...

There isn't a striker in World football that takes every chance or controls every ball. Vipotnik is into double figures by the first half of December for a team that has struggled for much of the season. He's comfortably capable of a 20+ goal return if given the service.

    Inoussa

He's been in and out of the side, occasional starts but mostly sub appearances. Hard to build up a head of steam in those circumstances. Widell has had largely the same issue.

Infantino is doing a cracking job of making people nostalgic for Blatter. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c80x38e04yro

    Eom

He is lightweight. No two ways about it. I think his dead ball delivery is quite a bit better than his live ball delivery. Technically though when he's on his game he's one of the top players at the club for me. Seems to very much be a confidence player. Did well at the tail end of last season...

Can vaguely remember Mexico '86 with that shadow in the centre circle of the Azteca, but Italia '90 was my first WC and I was captivated by it, although I will echo ANH's comments about that probably being mostly nostalgia. They've been kinda hit and miss since. USA '94 was pretty dull, I...

I liked the way he and Inoussa appeared to have set up a "shortarsed substitute" pairing and teamed up on a number of players to hassle them off the ball. Both players have earned themselves more game time. Inoussa especially should be getting some of the game time that Ronald is.

Nothing's really happened to Cullen. He is playing about as well as he always has barring that little spell last season that got people so excited, and the Championship is a helluva lot more competitive than most International games he'd be involved in. If we've got any serious ambitions of...

The hustle of playing in the middle threw him a bit. Couple of times he got caught on the ball because he just wasn't expecting it to be that quick. It's the sort of thing that can only be fixed with game time though. Want to see more of him than we have.

Could be wrong, but I think that might be the first time Widell has started a game in the centre of midfield as opposed to out wide. Agree completely that consistent game time is the key.

    Arsenal.

To a degree. It's a tossup between slightly tedious Arteta football and very tedious Guardiola football. I never thought I'd find myself sympathising with the Scousers but at least Klopp's teams were fun to watch. If nothing else an Arsenal win would be a bit of a change.

Matt Grimes, Captain of Coventry City.

He always had it in him. Even someone as critical of him as I was regularly acknowledged that. I just got tired of waiting either for him to work it out for himself or a manager to force him to. No regrets over his departure.
