What was the reaction to us appointing Steve Cooper fresh into his first job in management? Genuine question because I can’t remember. You’d think having parachute payments we’d have gone for a steadier hand but we didn’t. Thinking about it, this isn’t a surprise at all😂

Yes, I’m seeing a lot of praise for that appointment but I don’t seem to remember him doing so well at Rangers.

To be fair to him, Matos seems to have had more success in 12 games than Lijnders has had in his managerial career to date. Still, I know it’s a very small sample size.

The only major decision I recall them getting wrong on the football side is appointing Sheehan, and that’s what most fans seemed to want at the time. As for the summer business, I still don’t believe we’re in a position to judge any of them. You can argue there’s been a bit of a mess behind...

I agree with the first part, that’s the risk we’re taking. 12 games of management isn’t anything really. For me though, I don’t put much stock in the ‘inferior league’ argument, I think that matters more in player recruitment than in manager recruitment. If you’re good enough tactically, you...

Feels like they are going for a general style. By all accounts, Hellberg wanted to control the game and be hardworking off the ball. That’s the broad strokes of what Matos is about from what I’ve been reading. For me it’s encouraging that they know what they want in a manager. I totally get the...

Of course, I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. I’m just going to give these owners the benefit of the doubt for now. Felt like they were obligated to appoint Sheehan, this is their first big test for me.

I agree it’s a huge gamble and we’ve definitely seen more Championship football than our owners, but I look at Maresca, Farke, Wagner. All had limited to absolutely no experience (although Farke had a few years in at a very low level in Germany). It’s not unprecedented in this league. I would...

I don’t think fans know as much as they think they do to be honest. That’s not to say they know nothing but due diligence has clearly been done on Matos.

I’m not judging until we’ve seen a few games under him. Due diligence has obviously been done and enough was there to convince us to appoint him.

Matos a risk, and one I don’t think we needed to take, but comes with pedigree. Happy to give him the chance with the CV he has. This is the first real managerial appointment these owners have made because Sheehan was already here. Let’s hope it pays off!

I think the kind of style Matos supposedly plays, high press and looking to attack is the right way to go. It’s a huge gamble though, bigger than Martin or Hellberg. If he comes in, we’ll have to be patient and back him as fans.

I’d back him if he came in but we’ve just let go of a manager in his first job. This would be not much different. I’m not saying we need some old dinosaur, that’s not how we do things anyway but a bit more prior experience would be nice.

Vitor Matos mentioned now by the BBC. They also confirm Martin would be open to a return but we haven’t made an approach. A handful of candidates spoken to despite Hellberg being the focus. Matos has some pedigree, being an ex Liverpool coach and has been a number two at Salzburg I believe...

    Martin. Yes or No?

I think the job he did at the end of that season does go under the radar a bit. After the shocking January we had with no players signing and that press conference where he went against the board, the fact he almost managed play offs is impressive. The caveat to all of that though, is that he...

    Martin. Yes or No?

I think it would help, you need a certain level of quality to play the way he does. Having said that, some argue that he still underperformed with Southampton and their squad was worth much more than anything we’d be able to offer even now. I haven’t taken a look back at that Southampton squad...

Every time we lose out on a player or manager we all think it’s the end of the world and say it’s the same old same old but it’s where we are as a club. We are in a much better place than we were a year ago, it actually feels like we could make some progress now. We can’t really blame the club...

Odds suspended I think, could be in for a shock appointment?

We’ll have other options drawn up, it’s frustrating that we’ve missed out on one but I think we’ll end up with a decent appointment. It’s like with signings, you don’t always get your first choice but it doesn’t mean that second choice is of wildly lower quality. We’ll be alright.
