Cooper didn't have to deal with the fallout of relegation and the turnover of squad that Potter did. He had a much more stable set of circumstances and also had Ayew available to him.

Absolutely. I don't much care whether the next appointment is in a job or between them, but I would prefer someone with an appreciable track record behind him. Three out of the last four managers we've appointed had very little, and it showed. Potter had spent seven years at Ostersunds before...

Have they? I don't remember seeing many people call for Sheehan to be given the job on a permanent basis as a result of the last two games. I have seen plenty suggest that he not be automatically ruled out of it purely (it would appear) on the basis of previous associations. In either case...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Preston North End 0 Swansea City 0 | Att: 12,838 | The EFL Championship

Not sure what Delcroix did to get dropped, but given Darling's refusal to sign a new deal he can consider himself unlucky to be on the bench IMO.

The next three games are all against average mid table Championship sides and winnable with the kind of performance that we put in against Blackburn, and a result in the fourth against Burnley could be too. It's a hell of an audition for Sheehan, and would be far more telling about his future...

Duff got a few things wrong but it speaks volumes that the thing he is perhaps most hated for is telling the truth.

Loonies. After being in charge for about three months the signs were there that he was a wrong 'un. It's mind boggling how many people made excuses for him then, and still do now. From playoff finalists to fifteenth place despite having players like Piroe, Paterson, Downes, Cabango, Ntcham...

I was bored out of my skull watching us under Cooper (the advantage of having to watch games on telly is being able to read a book whilst having one eye on the match) but there's no doubt whatsoever that he's miles ahead of Russy and Williams in terms of coaching ability.

Cooper's team played tournament football. Cagey, low risk, happy to scrape a result. Remarkably similar to the way Southgate had England playing during his time and probably based on the same template given that they both worked in the same structure. Similar in the criticism they received too...

Of course, and nobody is disputing that, but that's not what we've had for most of the last four years. Very much the opposite, and it's concerning that the club is repeating its words of the past instead of acknowledging that most people have had a titful of our recent "identity".
  13. Dr. Winston

    New Manager

No, I'm making the point that in recent years the club has made a lot of noises about "identity", and "Dominating the ball", appointed two duffers in Martin and Williams as a result, and is now making worryingly similar noises again. In any case, 59% is not "dominating" possession as we've...

Does Football Fatigue Really Exist in Today's Game? And To What Extent?

They were both much of a muchness IMO. Quite pally and jovial when things were going well but prickly when challenged (which didn't happen often enough to either of them) and remarkably rapid when it came to trying to deflect blame. Basically the same manager.

    New Manager

I'm slightly concerned about the references to "Identity". It either suggests that we're looking for another possession merchant or he thinks that's what people want to hear. Passing football is good. Possession football is tedious.

Barring an utterly catastrophic run of form (which that one win in twelve came close to before being salvaged by the last few games) I suspect Monk was always pretty much nailed on for the job as a reward for services to Jenkins.
  17. Dr. Winston

    New Manager

Monk didn't get a bounce for three months. We proceeded to win one out of the next nine league games following the Derby. One out of the next twelve games overall. If Sheehan delivers a run of form like that he's not going to be offered the job. If he wins every remaining game they'll consider...

I think they'd absolutely consider Sheehan if the performances and results continue to improve. Seems a lot of doubt as to whether he'd actually want the job permanently.

How many people other than the terminally online are even aware of the links between Sheehan and Watson? Always seemed like an excuse to have a go at him for me. Can't imagine most people care one way or another, especially if he takes the side on a decent run.
  20. Dr. Winston

    New Manager

Sheehan has probably bought them the time that they need based on Saturday IMO. Not so much the result, but the fact that he engineered a complete 180 in terms of performance from the same players who have been looking almost entirely out of it since the turn of the year. That whatever switch...
