    Russell Martin

I think I'm enjoying the Rangers thing more as he would obviously have thought that winning in Scotland would be a doddle on the road to salvaging his reputation. The fact that even being remotely competitive in a fairly average league has proven to be well beyond his skillset is just "chef's...

I am enjoying his professional humiliation far more than I probably should.

Alan Sheehan on Hull | Reaction

I am slightly concerned with how quickly people are rushing to write off Widell. Agree completely that he needs minutes.

Alan Sheehan on Hull | Reaction

I don't get the sense from Sheehan that he's a bullshitter. That might not equate to him being a great coach or manager, but we may at least be able to depend upon an honest appraisal.

    Graham Potter

I agree that it has a lot to do with it, although perhaps not totally. Guardiola has been successful at three clubs, none of which have had American ownership. I do concur with the idea that clubs owned by Americans have tried to follow his example, but Europeans are just as open to the same...

    Graham Potter

I would tend to agree. Guardiola hasn't really achieved much in football without a collosal budget and/or Lionel Messi to help him out. Certainly he doesn't seem to have many answers to recent developments from the likes of Klopp and Slot, although time may make a fool out of that statement. I...

    Graham Potter

Perhaps an element of truth to that. There does seem to be a schism between the true believers in Pep (like Russy, or maybe Potter), and those who would move the game on to a point where it's entertaining again. A spell abroad refinding himself might do him some good.

    Head of scouting leaving

One way or another, Brett Cravatt is going to find out if he's actually as good as he's no doubt spent long hours telling him that he is.

    Head of scouting leaving

Who needs scouts when you've got Dimi and the latest copy of Football Manager?

Alan Sheehan on Hull | Reaction

Midfield at the minute reminds me of the one we had at the start of the 2010/11 season. Three sort of similar central midfielders all trying to do a similar job. I think we need to find the space for a #10 type. Someone to sit behind the striker and just try to create, like Dobbie did that...

    Graham Potter

West Ham aren't in a good place and haven't been since they sacked Moyes. They hate their stadium, they hate Dai Topshelf, they hate Potter. A payoff might be the best thing for him.

    Russell Martin

Rangers had 66.5% possession mind so in a very broad sense they were the better side. The players just needed to be braver. Or something.

I think it's probably a case of the kind of coaches we've mostly had over the last six or seven years preferring him to play the "safe" way that is his forte. The only two to try and force him out of that were Potter and Duff, and for my money both of them got performances out of him that...

    Montague

I can certainly believe in a disagreement on the type of players we're after. Monty might well be one of those deeply in thrall to Pepball and the club are moving away from that. I would find it much harder to go along with the idea that we've dispensed with him because the players he was...

Whatever division we're in, whatever targets we have, we're not going to turn our noses up at a bargain. Cravatt and Co didn't get wealthy by paying more for anything than they had to. I don't buy that idea at all.
  16. Dr. Winston

    Montague

Reading between the lines it seems like Monty and Dimi (could have been a kids cartoon) are at cross purposes, whether major or minor, and Dimi, being Brett Cravatt's guy, won out. I'd imagine that most of us old heads view the prospect of Dimi having even more power with some trepidation, but...

    Paul Clement

Will never forgive him for the way he sent the team out to play at the start of the 17-18 season. Trying to scrape a point against teams like Brighton, Watford and Newcastle, none of whom were up to much at the time. Another three or four points in that period would probably have kept us up.

    Žan Vipotnik - Swansea’s Number 9

Cullen doesn't get anywhere near starting upfront, ever, unless Sheehan has gone clinically insane or both Idah and Vipotnik are injured. Vip has possession at the moment so you'd think that he'll start against Hull.
  19. Dr. Winston

    Žan Vipotnik - Swansea’s Number 9

People continually overlook the importance of confidence to a strikers game. Vipotnik upped sticks to another country at a relatively young age after effectively losing his job, then spent the first two thirds of the season playing for a moron who had no idea how to use him. Despite this he...

    The Summer Transfer Window Thread

Primarily why I've tended to lay off the "Our transfer windows have been shite!" narrative. We've signed some decent players, but we've appointed some hopeless managers. The three years wasted between Russy and Luke Williams did us more damage than anyone we brought in during a transfer window.
