The quality and quantity of service has improved for sure. A full year to settle in a foreign country after basically being made redundant probably helps as well.

I'll maintain that he might have got to this point sooner with a bit more backing from the managers he's had during tougher times, but at least we seem to be there now.

Now he needs to keep it up. Obviously not the goal a game he's getting, but he should be targeting 15-20 for the season barring injuries.

I'm not so sure the service he's currently receiving is that much better than he got under Sheehan last season to be honest, although as Phil points out, it's far better than he got under Williams.

Sheehan gave him a good run of starts when he took over and the results weren't great for Vip. I think, as others have said, that the big difference this year is confidence. He scored off the bench against Watford and instead of then drawing a blank in the next game as often happened after he scored last season, he spanked in that beauty against Plymouth. That's got to have given him more confidence, then the goals kept coming.

It's not as if we're providing him with lots of chances, as the goals against Plymouth and Hull were mostly of his own making.

It's hard to imagine him now having a game like he did against Plymouth at home last season, where we did give him good chances and he missed them all.

The addition of Adam Idah has probably given him extra motivation to fight for his place in the team, might see him as proper competition.

I'd be pretty miffed if Cullen was getting selected in front of me week in week out.

In fairness he does look a different player now. I don't think anyone could question his shooting or finishing ability even last year, but he's now actively involved in play, popping passes off and holding the ball up which he couldn't / wasn't doing last year.

Long may it continue.

I do wonder if there were some "clear the air"conversations between player and manager in the summer. During his time with us it seems that no matter what did the lad couldn't get a decent run in the side.

If I were him and I'm constantly on the bench or getting hooked, I'd be a bit fed up as well.

Agree, we aren’t creating chances for fun and that is something that needs to be addressed if we want to be competitive all season long. That will come in time though. Vipi is all confidence at the moment, doesn’t have too many chances in games but buries one when it comes around.

Whatever happened in the close season Vip knew there was serious interest and a large transfer fee in Monty bringing in a striker(Kone).
I have no doubt however that not only has Vip knuckled down,, realised that Cullen was the only striker between him and a regular place, and upped his game the guy is also relishing the fact that the supply line is of a superior quality than last season and he also has players coming through from midfield to support him.

Another player who has also been targeted since he was signed by Russell Martin, rightly so on occasions in seasons gone by, and who is by a huge distance short of Vigouroux's quality, is Andy Fisher.
But lets not forget if he hadn't saved that shot from Hudson-Odoi, 3 minutes after Swans had got back in the game from Burgess's header plus the saves he made in the penalty shoot-out v Argyle we wouldn't be toasting last night's incredible comeback.
