Sorry if I missed a few put plus not included players who's contracts are up in the summer.

Thoughts and ideas?
Time to cut ties with Cooper?
Look to move Cullen on?

21 of those are in the current ‘first team squad’ so two key questions for me.

1. Of the others that out on loan who does Matos want in his squad of ~25 players next season. I haven’t seen enough of any of them, but based on reports/clips I’d suggest Lissah & Congreve

2. Who of those 21 does Matos think are surplus to requirements (and are hopefully able to be shipped out). Based on this season I’d suggest Santos & Cooper.

If those numbers are correct we’re back to 21.

I’d suggest we then need to bring in 4 players - 2 of which must improve the starting XI (Centre Half & Right Wing). This will likely be financed by selling one or both of Vipotnik & Galbraith so clearly we’d need to replace them as well.

25 man squad looking something like this before the main sale:

GK: Vigouroux, Fisher
FB: Key, Tymon, Parker, NEW
CB: Cabango, Burgess, Lissah NEW
CM: Galbraith, Franco, Stamenic, Widell, Walta, Fulton, NEW
W: Ronald, Eom, Inoussa, Congreve, NEW
CF: Vipotnik, Idah Cullen

*if we’re loaning the best of the young keepers we’ll need a 3rd choice keeper again (maybe Farman will stay and will include some coaching in his contract).

As always there’ll be some extra movement, but for those who are interested it’s fun to discuss. Just don’t stress about it and wait to see what we’ve got at the start of August & then September!

Based on that (and without taking departures into account), the stand-out needs to me are:

- New starting quality and comfortable on the ball CB to replace one of our current starting CB's, probably Burgess.
- Backup left-back. Samuels-Smith has barely played because Tymon has been a machine, but we need someone there in case Tymon is injured or actually needs a break at some point next season!
- More than enough quantity in midfield and on the wings, but is the quality there? Think the centre is sorted unless we can somehow pick up a quality play-maker/No 10 on the cheap, but a quality winger to lock down the right wing place is needed. Unless Matos thinks one of Inoussa, Congreve or Bianchini will make a leap.
- Up front we're fine unless Vipotnik is sold.

TL;DR - Priorities for me are a ball-playing CB, backup left-back, quality right wing player.

A lot of the talk regarding transfers this summer has been about getting in some experience and I think that sounds like a good idea to complement the window we had last summer. My only issue is what kind of experience are we talking about? If it’s championship experience I doubt we’ll be able to poach players from a lot of clubs in this league. If they mean EFL experience there are no guarantees that someone from League One or Two will hit the ground running.

Someone I’d like to get from the Championship is Segecic from Portsmouth, he scored a hattrick against Stoke yesterday and is only 21 but with them staying up and other clubs probably sniffing round it might be tough.

Interesting to see who we target anyway. I like the squad as a base but needs an injection of quality.

At least six of those won’t be on the scene next season. For me it’s not so much about who stays (as we are going to despatch the baggage, loan out some prospects and sell at least one of the jewels), what’s more important is who comes in. Start a thread about this, Daps 😁

I think we could incorporate that into this thread.

Key, Ronald, Cooper, Vip/Galbraith, Santos, Congreve, Cotterill will all go permanently imo. I'm hoping Burgess aswell but I just can't see it.

Wilson, Wales, Bianchini will be loaned out imo.

That should see 15-20million brought in. A majority of that will be pure profit especially if Vip leaves as they are most are from the academy/frees. That will significantly boost our Psr position and allow us to spend more freely.

As for incomings a CB, RB, RWx2, CM, ST/CM depending on which of Vip/Galbraith leaves and a backup LB is all we need.

These guys have to be starting quality players, we have a decent foundation to build on lets not waste it and have another poor summer window.

It would be great if we could get Ben Davies in, he could play CB and cover LB.
Not sure if his injury might be an issue.

It will be interesting to see when pre-season work starts how Lissah, Wilson, Congreve, Cotterill and Lloyd are integrated into the first team squad. If we can't get at least two of those listed in the squad then we might as well pack it in and drop down a few levels as far as youth development is concerned.

I can see Wrexham going in for Ben should he be available only for the fact that they could probably afford his wage demand at the moment let alone if they get promoted to the PL.

Injury this year and lack of matches over the last few years would mean expecting him to play 40+ games might be optimistic.

My heart says yes though and definitely covers both positions if the wages are doable.

Agree with this.

Not only does it reflect badly that we aren’t bringing players through that the manager thinks are ready, but also sends a message to those youngsters lower down that there’s unlikely to be a pathway to the 1st team.

As difficult as it is to say being a Swans fan, I don’t think we should be looking at Ben Davies this summer. Fantastic player for Wales, us and very reliable for Spurs. The issue is injuries and a lack of minutes. We’ve done this with a few older players recently and apart from Joe Allen (which could also be argued against) I don’t think any have worked that well. As a back up? Maybe but he’ll likely be expensive for us, we don’t want him on the bench. He wouldn’t get in over Tymon at LB and we need a real CB to come into the first team. Could have worked at one time but I think that’s gone now.
