During the past season we have welcomed schools and colleges to the stadium on nine separate occasions as part, or in support of their examination studies.
60 Year 11 pupils at Dwr y Felin School Neath were involved in completing the Trust’s Welsh Baccalaureate “Enterprise and Employability Challenge” to suggest ways of “improving young people’s matchday experience”. The best three groups from the school visited for a stadium tour before pitching their ideas to a panel consisting of Lee Trundle and Hayley Ford from the Club and Tom Williams from the Swans Foundation. The pupils impressed and all concerned had an excellent morning. A smaller group of Welsh Bacc pupils from Gowerton School Year 10 visited to launch their research for the challenge.
While all visits involved a stadium tour most then focussed on finding out about how the Club operates as a business in support of courses aimed at various levels of Business Studies qualifications within the14-19 age range. As well as gaining valuable real life examples for their examination studies, a side effect of the visits is that the youngsters end the morning with a far greater understanding of the off the field challenges faced by the Club than has the average supporter. Our Schools’ Programme fills an important gap here for Economics/Business Studies teachers as it is very difficult for them to get access to such information for a business as large as Swansea city AFC Ltd.
Penyrheol and Morriston Schools brought groups of GCSE and BTEC Level 2 pupils, while older students came from Bishop Vaughan School, Olchfa School, Gower College Tycoch Campus and Gower College Gorseinon Campus. Variously these were studying Business or Economics for BTEC Level 2 and 3 or A Level qualifications.
The visits were as follows:
2024:
October 2nd Penyrheol School
October 8th Gowerton School
November 12th, Bishop Vaughan School
November 26th Dwr y Felin School
November 27th Gower College Tycoch Campus
December 10th Olchfa School (Economics)
December 11th Olchfa School (Business)
2025
January 29th Morriston School
February 4th Gower College Gorseinon Campus
In all 240 pupils and students were involved in these programmes
In early June 2025, in company with representatives of the Club and Foundation, we will be visiting Dwr y Felin School to monitor the progress of, and encourage, a further 100 pupils tackling our Welsh Bacc Challenge. This time they are Year 10.
