I think that Szobszlai goal was better, but I was more amazed with Max Dowman. Not only that he was playing on the center stage of world football, I just think of the mental strength and resilience he must have at his age just to enter Arsenal’s dressing room day in day out.

I'd argue Irankuda for Watford was an even better strike against us
He scored another quality goal again yesterday he seems to be an excellent signing by Watford.

I think the Liverpool goal was just so far out.

Hes only allowed to enter the changing room when everyone else is changed.

Hes not even 16 until new years eve, I've been on my soapbox about the complete negligence of young players for a long time.

Shouldn't be allowed to play in the EPL until they are 18, he cant even sign a pro contract for another 15 months. Madness.

Cesc Fabregas was playing regularly in the PL at 16. Ditto James Milner. Ryan Giggs was 17 when he became a Man Utd regular. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

If anything players are a bit too coddled these days. Certainly we keep them around too much. Once they hit 17-18 they should be off out on loan instead of still turning out for our youth sides.

Survivors bias, times have changed and that trope (from a safeguarding viewpoint) is horrificly dated.

15 year olds shouldn't be put into a senior environment at grassroots football, and its no different because its a higher level

Not to mention when you consider the labour they are getting from him, and they can barely pay him, its exploitation but because it's football then its ok

Horrendous and basically neglect, but its football innit. Can you tell i get cross about it?

At least wait until the boy is someway past 16, what is anyone losing?

Interesting debate this.

I sort of get where you're coming from. It's not as if Arsenal don't have Saka, Madueke and Nwanweri in that position anyway. 15 does seem very young. It's only a year older than my eldest.

You'd think Arsenal would learn from what's now happening with Saka, who is starting to pick up hamstring injuries for fun. They've flogged him to death for 4-5 years since a teenager and it looks to me he might end up like Michael Owen i.e. overplayed then basically buggered by the time he's 25.

Clubs can be very selfish sometimes, player welfare an afterthought.

The physical toll is another thing entirely, we know better than we did 30 years ago that on average physical maturity and growth in males isn't complete until 23-25 years of age

You cannot cheat biology and subject pre-adolescents to a consistent intensity of elite football, it will pay itself back in either injury or performance.

Rooney and Owen were done at 30 and on the scrapheap.

Giggs never played a full epl season in his whole career, averaged around 26 epl games a season maybe.

Ronaldo is a 1 in 1 million freak of nature, an outlier, but he didn't go mental in his performances until around 21.

Messis performance took a huge nosedive somewhere around 31 aswell, he was crap for PSG, relative to his standards anyway.

These players simply couldn't keep their extraordinarily levels going into the age of 30, which compared to the ideas of some 20 years ago, is way off the mark

I get the managers thinking, you have an amazing talent and you're under pressure to win, its easy to ignore research and confirm your own bias. It doesn't increase the chances of them getting the sack, which is a positive for all of them

The fans dont care, the wellbeing of the player doesn't make a difference to them if they win

The best I've seen it handled was Foden at City, Pep looked after him meticulously, he was in and out of the team at the right times, which is why Arteta taking this approach stuns me.

We haven't even mentioned the psychological damage, for every 1 wonderkid theres another 1000 underneath them that the system has chewed up and thrown away.

Winds me right up if you couldnt tell
