This is what some of us “older” supporters had to deal with.
Losing at home to Scunthorpe. Check our league position.

I saw us play Workington before they went out of the league. Southport were the other team that went. Replaced by Wimbledon and Wigan. I always thought of Wigan as league newcomers and yet they came up in 1978...

Went to Workington when we won , think it was 3-1

We had many entertaining games with Workington over the years. High scoring wins and losses, mostly losses, both home and away.
For example, during 1965, in September we lost 1-6 and then in October we lost 7-0.

I was unlucky to watch both of those.

The name Kit Napier is burnt into my brain. He scored 3 goals in that 1-6 and just a few weeks later scored 4 goals in that 7-0!!

I watched a report on YOUTUBE recently about the demise of Scunthorpe, when you think back fairly recently when we were in league 1 and they stormed it, i think Billy Sharp was our nemesis as the time, they very nearly went completely under last week when they were “saved”by another set of local business people i just hope for the fans sake they can hold on.

The last owner was a complete and utter waste of time, it turned out he had numerous names/identities and convictions for fraud, kind of mirrors a lot of FL experiences. There are so many other clubs such as Bury and Darlington who were not only recent rivals but i can also remember Darlington playing us at the Liberty stadium now all gone.

We have been incredibly lucky as club that we were saved and as much as we rightly criticise the old board for what they did we still survived which is more than some of the clubs in that table did.

Interesting to see Reading and Brentford there.
A little later on, Scunthorpe play off game. Deservedly lost and their central midfielder ran the show.

Sheffield Wednesday v Swansea City🦢
