Mostly good while it lasted but it was never going to last. I do sometimes wonder what he was planning when he did that press conference saying that he’d be giving his side of the story. It was of course an utterly bizarre thing to do or say when it was just a typical parting of ways between club and manager. It had a few loonies on the other board openly wanting him to take the club to the cleaners over it, choosing the man over the club. Really weird times.

As Trust Chair at the time I clearly got a heads up of this a few hours before the news broke with confirmation coming about half hour or so that it was definitely happening. Remember it well, I was working in Glasgow, having a quiet pint with a colleague in the local pub near the office when the phone went to tell me. Not sure I was expecting it, I knew that there were grumblings about Laudrup at the time but the supporter in me was always remembering the wins at Anfield, Stamford Bridge, Wembley, Mestalla etc etc

Not sure sacking Laudrup was the wrong decision but appointing Monk to take on a Premier League job as his first job most definitely was.

Monk as a caretaker, fine. Monk being made permanent boss after presiding over a run of something like three wins in 13/14 games was insanity. You could tell then that there were big problems brewing.

Look no further than the defacto Director of Football at the time. No doubt him, Dineen and co will try to claim credit for selling on as a prime reason for us getting promoted, should it happen

I was in Tenerife at the time, out one day wearing a top containing a Swans logo blokes were coming on to me saying wtf had happened and asking if Laudrup had been caught shagging a wife of one of the board members.

A fantastic period - loved every minute (apart for 2 games).
The reason he was sacked ... Monk, Monk and Monk (with a bit of Tut and Jenkins thrown in).
A lot of fans were happy he'd gone because were dicing with relegation places but ignored the fact we were the darlings of Europe (I was in Madrid and the Metro had adverts advertising showing Swansea City players!) still in three competition and had, in one week in December 11 first team players unavailable and for 2 month had a rolling injury table of 8.)
A dreadful decision only exceeded by the Guidolin affair.

Didn't he complain after leaving about meddling board members thinking they were football men? He was warning us.

Neither party was blameless. I don't doubt for a second that Tutumlu was overstepping his boundaries when it came to player ins/outs with Laudrup's knowledge, and he's never stuck around anywhere for long. Nor do I doubt that unqualified people were interfering in there too, as they continued to do afterwards.

The call to remove Laudrup on was probably the right one at the time. The choice of who to replace him with was catastrophic, and symptomatic of the kind of shitty decision making, greed and ego that led us to where we eventually ended up.

I don't recall him ever complaining in public and even distance himself from his long time friend Tutumlu.
I remember Tutumlu did make a lot of comments about the situation.

Yeah of course mate, his time had come to an end. He continued to play Michu despite him having a serious ankle injury which pretty much ended his career. He should have been rested and Bony shouldn't have been on the bench.

I agree with most of this analysis, except that Laudrup should have been given more time to take us to Naples, and into the international break. The match against West Ham was one of the times when I left early.

How old is he - mid-fifties? - so is he still in football, or retired to count his money? And why did he never get a big club after leaving us?

Yeah I remember that West Ham game, it all turned to dog shit, wasn't that just after we won the Cup, and ML had buggered off to Paris or something. It's all a bit hazy, correct me if I'm wrong.
Mind you the football we played under him was beautiful, heady days indeed.👍
