I need to know fairly sharpish if its possible to drive from M4 up the A449/A40 dual carriageway to the M5 motorway without problems tomorrow. The southbound direction was closed tonight around Raglan due to roadworks, which neccessitated a horrendous detour via the Heads of the Valleys, which is like driving through Gaza.

To be honest, I prefer the heads of the Valleys even with the works and it is getting more beneficial as the weeks pass. I love the sweeping view as you drive onwards from Hirwaun

I don't know whats going on, Mutey. We came down from the Midlands last night with some family and it was OK until we got past Monmouth, then the road was closed at Raglan. We were diverted to the Raglan roundabout, so I directed us down country roads to Usk, thinking we could pick up the A449 again there, but no, southbound was still closed, and we had to go north again. I then directed us off to Abergavenny to pick up the HOTV road. It was great until about Merthyr but horrendous after that where they are still working on it. Pitch dark of course, single lanes, cones, speed restrictions, temporary lights, working gangs, etc.

I don't know which way to send the family members home after the funeral we are attending today.

Nothing showing for A449

Nothing for A40 for your journey

Yes always use HoV when we come down for games (apart from when there's closures)

Much better drive than the M4.

The in-laws live up Ebbw Vale way and I agree with you and jack_lord. If I'm going somewhere like Birmingham, I always take the HOV.

However, it's a different story at night right now, as Pego rightly says. There's all kinds of diversions set up while they work on the road, there's lots of one lane sections, etc. It's not pleasant at night.

Yes always best to check the latest info.

If anyone is on facebook they do give info

They are still on target to complete by the summer.

I went up to Hereford a fortnight ago after work on a Thursday and it was a nightmare after Hirwaun until I got to Dowlais Top and then you got those fucking stupid average speed cameras from the Brynmawr turnoff until past Gilwern, there's just no need ffs.

The average speed camera at Bryn mawr is a piss take. I have endured the change from Hirwaun to Dowlais top and as it bears completion and each little bit more opens you can appreciate the road Steve. Even the last four weeks is a pleasure compared. Mid 2025 is the expected completion date. I'm hoping that is June :) - still dont understand why the WAG have made that zone 50 at Brynmawr though

Can't wait for it to finish it will make life for easier to travel up to Hereford, used to go up and back same day, but unless you're on the bank at Belmont by half 6/7am you'll struggle to get a peg to fish from, the fish congregate in the town stretch from mid to late Autumn and over Winter, season closes on Friday, so back up there in June, but will fish other areas then cause the fish spread out from the Town stretch.
