And yet Fulton was ever present for the run of good games at the end of the season be it as a starter or a sub, the only time as a team we didn't get the best results was when he was kept on the pitch for a full 90 minutes, legs gone given the work he puts in?cmajack said:You ask is Fulton able to still do the legwork because of age, for goodness sake he's 29 not 49. He's always been a donkey in midfield ,but was allowed to get away with it under Martin because he did so many unnecessary 5 and 10 yard passes sideways and backwards to Grimes and the defence. Someone on a topic on Saturday said he wasn't a defensive midfielder, well he certainly isn't a creative attacking midfielder, his assist and goalscoring record with us is woeful. If you look at the impressive run we put together at the back end of the season the two obvious improvements were that we tweaked the system to a back four and the other was that Fultons name rarely made the starting line up.
As for the short passes to Grimes usually it's a case of Fulton similarly to Downes, covering for Grimes lack of pace, with Grimes then coming back to receive the short pass similar as he has for most of his time with us instead of the being further up the park giving options , so many times Grime drops so deep afraid of his lack of pace he ends up not offering himself leaving the WB with very few options.
Would 100 percent agreed the change of formation was the overriding factor in the upturn of fortune, 4 at the back meant the midfielder spent more time in the midfield not constantly in almongst the back 3.
Never said Fulton was a creative midfielder he is a dog, a winner of the ball to get it to better players, never said he was a defender either.
Funnily enough at the end of the season we saw the inclusion of Cundle and Cooper, legs, Allen and Ntcham creativity?
