Anyone think that Duff…

Looks like 3-5-2 with a high emphasis on the press and winning the ball high before attacking quickly.

Of the times I saw Barnsley that’s the impression I got. It could be he played the best style for the players he had. My hope is for more ‘busy’ play played correctly. Also that he isn’t hard wired to one style of play with little flexibility if players aren’t suited.

Im just looking forward to an actual pressing approach, literally cant remember the last time we had a proper team press and put the other team under proper pressure. Better teams last year (Burnley especially) pressed us stupidly hard out of possession and we didn't have an answer, hopefulyl that can be us this year

Been watching a lot of the Barnsley highlights on Youtube since he was first linked and not seen much to concern me on that score. Plenty of slick passing in the final third. Even if we're not as obsessed with ball retention as before I think most would happily sacrifice 75% possession for a bit more pace and attacking intent.

They played some pretty good stuff and one of the top scorers in the league last year, so no concerns from me either. That's assuming he ends up coming here, as I bet Barnsley won't want to let him go without a fight/significant compo. He steadied the ship after relegation and then they put a couple of really good runs together. At one point it looked like they were going to climb into the top 2, but Plymouth and Ipswich were relentless. I'd rather have McKenna or Schumacher, but neither of those would be realistic imo.

Only time will tell. Schumacher did a remarkable job last season. McKenna did very well too but with easily the highest budget in the division. There is just something in Duff's demeanour, as well as a consistently good record as a manager over five years and 250 + matches, that makes me think he may well turn out to be the best of the three.

…. Is not going to be our next manager?

Latest statement from the club states that the new man will fit in with the clubs footballing ethos.

Well that ain’t Duff if his time at Barnsley is anything to go by.

I’d be less surprised to see him make the short trip to Sheff Weds.

Darren Moore got a job yet?

It was always going to be Duff since the news broke about a week or so ago.

Davies was never a goer ever since the initial approach was made despite many wanting him, he was approached but a better offer had already come along and that ship sailed very quickly and also put to bed.......there was never an in depth conversation or even zoom call with powers that be.

Heard there was interest in Schumacher but no approach or offer was made despite initial questions to the correct people.

Once Watson got into things then there was a real Holmes moment in the work on Duff with him being the no 1 candidate for about 15 days to this point, all being held up with the negotiating if Martin's compensation.
Duff's compo package was settled very quickly and any other info about us in for other managers or news of a shortlist being mentioned in the last 15 days or so was let's just Duff.

We got the man that Watson wanted despite some wanting another who showed little interest in coming and a quick phone call to the wow name that again didn't show much interest.

Seems to be a thing that a new manager will raid his old club, so anyone think thers anyone worth poaching from Barnsley?

He didn't do it at Barnsley with Cheltenham players so wouldn't be suprised if he didn't.
I think Duff appears to be a guy who just prefers to concentrate on what he has to work with.

Thanks for clearing that up Nostradamus.

The way I see it Daps, when there is a committee of such making these decisions, I'd assume different people involved would want different things. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Davies was still in the running late, he hasn't been employed yet by anybody and has made clear he wants to be the main man somewhere one day.

Deffo going to be a lot of different wants with so many different people involved but the papers were well and truly put in the lap of Paul Watson on this appointment.
Looks like even Levien kept out if this one.

Davies was certainly a want by some but that one went out the window a couple of weeks back and the club didn't look back from there.

Really looking forward to see how Duff gets on here, appears to have more of a sharp edge and knows what he needs to do in comparison to Martin and Cooper.

It's going to be a tougher season this one so it's important we give Duff how full support especially early doors in my opinion.

Kinell, pretty much everything you said there is incorrect, as per.

Chris D was in contention as recently as a few days ago. Fact.

You need to be mindful of the fact that CD previously worked at the Club, and there's still a strong connection with people that work at the club now. People here know others at the club too. So, you constantly making things up is just going to perpetuate your reputation of looking not-so-clever, as people will know instantly that you are wrong, again. How can anyone be so consistently wrong about stuff like this ?

This has all the hallmarks of you saying that Morgan and Morris were watching a game together in a box at the .com, despite being in Asia. It's beyond a joke. It ought to stop, yet somehow the comedic benefits just outweigh the 'wtf? factor' right now in the silly season where you flourish.

So you were wrong again!?
Could have just said that rather than your usual form of deflection and personal attacks......not a good look.

Now that's cleared up.........you happy with the appointment of Duff?

Don't tell me that's another Dr P reincarnation as he reads very similar ??

Or just another know it all who actually knows zilch.
