Are there three centre backs..

Darling has been such a let down, was excited when we managed to pull him off, what a waste of 2M.

All rubbish footballers, not great defenders.. but we knew this when we went 1 win against 11 men in 20.. all the opposition managers need to do is say turn them and get into a foot race.. god help us when Dan James and Sinisterra start running at us

All three are very, very poor defenders.

Darling is physically weak under pressure.

Cabango, I've seen milk turn quicker.

Wood, we have turned down £10m for a CB that can't win the ball in the air. Unbelievable.

Naughton's legs have gone, should never have been given a new deal.

It's clear that Martin was not the problem because they're just as crap under Duff, but then I could have told you that a long time ago.

Of all the areas of the team where we need a total clear out, it's CB where it just needs razing to the ground and starting again. Much easier said than done though.

Because of course, the fuck up on the opening day, the shambles at West Brom, and yesterday, that was all down to the previous manager wasn't it.

The real point, of course, is that this isn't about either manager.

They're just crap players.

By the way, didn't realise Fisher was a CB, thanks for the update. I'll be sure to bear that latest nugget of yours in mind 👍🏻

You need to fall in love again, best way to mend a broken heart

I know Duff isn't your type though, too rough for you, doesn't do the sweet talk like Russell. I get it.

Darling it would appear is not up to this level.
Wood was not deemed good enough at Boro and has had half a good season with us.
Cabango was deemed with Guehi as the best centre back partnership under Cooper on the saturday night football show back a few years ago.
The three together just don't seem to work.
He has to try something different on Tuesday.

When Martin ditched the 3 CB system for the last 9 games of last season, Wood and Cabango, operating just as a pair, looked like they understood their roles much much better than they ever have as part of a 3. It has often occurred to me that when there are 3 CBs, the mindset seems to be that they have safety in numbers so they can leave any developing danger to one of the other 2, which is exactly what happened for Preston's winner yesterday with nobody picking up the scorer. I'm not saying Wood & Cabango are good players and we can always do with better but they seem to instinctively play to the best of their limited abilities as a pair and with the different mindset that they probably grew up with. This is the 3rd season we've started with the 3 CB system under 2 different managers and the 3rd season where it clearly hasn't been working. It was probably no coincidence either that last season, switching to a back 4 actually seemed to bring the best out of Fisher. A back 4 would also give us an extra body in midfield so we don't get overrun there which also takes the heat off the defence.

You make some decent points here, they did look slightly better in a 4 and it would probably benefit Duff to try that again, but we have to be realistic, it's just turd polishing. They're just not very good defenders, any of them. They don't have defenders natural instincts. Which is a problem when you play CB 😂

That said, we'll likely have to make do with most if not all of them until January, unless something dramatic happens in the next few days. It's up to Duff to coax the best out of them, somehow. I don't envy him.
