My big concern if we get Williams, he likes a back 3 with full backs literally playing as wingers.

Surely we need to keep a back 4 in a 4-2-3-1 with width formation?

Would suit key and tymkn if nothing else

As good a game as Ben Cabango had last time out, he cannot play that back three role. He’s not that type of player, makes far too many mistakes.

Hopefully he's sharp enough to have recognised what a disaster that was for the last two managers here who preferred to play with a back three at lower levels.

Plain to see that one of our struggles has been when we’ve played with a back 3
Let’s go back to 4,3,3/ 4,5,1

This is going to be one of the very first dawning moments.

Does LW play with his preferred tactics, even if we don't have the players to match to it.
Or, does he adjust and play to the strengths of the team (which was one of RM's failings).

Would like to see Darling starting as a centre back as he has lots of energy, seems to care and is useful offensively at set pieces.

Wood would be a backward step - he malingers on the ball.

I would be happy to see Wood go in January if the fee was good.
Go with Canango, Darling and Humphreys until the end of the season.

Use the Wood money and the whack still left to get a creative 10, striker and wingers in.

My biggest concern is the back 3 and the back 4 and the middle 2 and the front 1 and 2.

When it comes to our current crop of central defenders for me the order is surely:
Humphries > Darling > Wood > Cabango

I know Pedersen can play central too but he is definitely a fullback by trade.

I know many give Cabango the benefit for being a local lad but over the past two seasons for me he is the most error prone player we have who often not only makes poor decisions, he gets simple passes wrong missing players under no pressure (or even worse passes it straight to the opposition) and has a very weak ability to read the game. For me he is our weakest link defensively especially if we are going to find ourselves once again trying a back three where all of the traits mentioned above are non negotiable.

We don’t have the energy or movement in midfield or out wide to be able to play 3 centre backs.
Darling and Bashir are my 2 to start.

From what I understand is Williams’ game is based on ball playing centre backs who can push on and effectively become midfielders… Darling and Humphreys are probably capable of this… Cabango on the other hand 😳

A few times last year, Wood would (Edward Wood Would) burst forward and look class. No idea why this wasn’t used more as he would catch teams totally off guard and open the game right up.

Because he would then pass it 5 yards sideways, scuttle 20 yards back like an Italian tank and get it back to pass back to the goalie or trip over his own feet. He’s cack. Let’s hope we can still get anything for him. If not, maybe the new manager can find a role for him he doesn’t balls up. More mistakes in him than even ‘Bango.

All our centre backs are cack.
Darling is probably the best of a bad bunch. Maybe I’m being a bit too harsh on him there, because he is quite a threat offensively. But the rest, and like you, I include Wood, are poor.
