This is what happens when you let expensive assests run down thier contracts. Lets get Piroe done.

"Rovers offered Brereton Diaz a new long-term and even short-term contract to try and keep him at the club. They rebuffed three bids last summer with no club meeting the owners' valuation of around £15million.

Now, he is a free agent"

Very few Championship clubs could afford to eat that kind of a loss.
We either tie him down to a new contract, gamble on him getting us promoted this season or sell him this window for 50-60% of his true value.

15m is one hell of a one season loan fee for zero success and I doubt they were going down without him.

We definitely don't go with the gamble option, that's exactly what Blackburn have done.

He's got to go or sign a new contract before the window closes.

I agree, but right now those are the three options in front of us.
£10-15m invested wisely is enough to cover 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 positions where we are sorely lacking players.

This is the frustrating thing with the modern game. Footballers have basically got clubs by the balls.
The Bosman ruling was the worst thing that could happen to clubs.

The Bosman ruling was always going to happen sooner or later, preventing someone from plying their trade elsewhere even though their contract with you had expired was never going to survive legal challenges.

It seems crazy now that for so long, that was the status quo.

Things have gone too far the other way now with the amount of money in the game, but previous to Bosman, club owners were laughing all the way to the bank and players were screwed over.
