Ben Mee leaving Brentford

Old fashioned, used to tuck his shirt in. Looked okay, good influence, until Martin came in and invented passing and that was the end of him.
Just checked on wiki and he played 46 times for us, but I still have zero recollection of him 🤣

Further to that it also says “manager Russell Martin announced that consistency of other players and the loan signing of Finley Burnsf rom Manchester City had pushed him down the pecking order.[36]

So further to Bennett, I’ve never heard of Finley Burns either. Fuck knows what’s happened to my memory!

Finley Burns FFS. Another no-hoper like Rhys Williams and Josh McEchran that had our fans spunking in their pants when we signed them.

Pretty sure we signed Ryan Manning and Ryan Bennett on the same day.

Bennett was a solid but unspectacular centre half. One who would do just fine in a Cooper style side which was all about "shape, shape, shape" but was completely unsuited to a side under the likes of Martin or Williams who demanded the defenders have 70% of our possession and pass it side to side to each other with the occasional token forward pass to Grimes.

Satire aside, he was not good with the ball at his feet trying to thread passes through or to ping 50 yard diagonal balls to the wingers. He would win headers and slam it long and let the forwards deal with that side of the game. His limitations quickly became apparent when Martin insisted on the team playing the ball on the floor and the defenders having a huge responsibility in recycling possession and starting attacks by finding other team mates.

He has been completely erased from my memory bank, zero recollection of his name or seeing him wearing the shirt. Never come across that of player who so recently played for us 🤯🤯

He milked us for a fortune never even warmed the bench under Martin

Don't you mean an occasional pass back to Grimes?

I see us signing an experienced centre half as backup rather than as first choice. Santos may fit the bill, especially as he apparently has a decent long ball. For the player trading model to work you can't have a young up-and-coming centre back, such as Low, sitting on the bench. As long as they stay fit and free of suspension centre halves can be expected to play pretty much every game, so there would be limited opportunities to play a squad centre half.
