• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

I am halfway through the Irvine Welsh book "Dead man's trousers". It is the final book to feature Renton, Sickboy, Begbie and Spud and I have to say it is my favourite book of his so far. So many twists turns, and shocks. It really is the edge of your seat stuff.

I previously read over Christmas and New year - Art, Sex Music by Cosy Fanny Tutti, Skagboys - Irvine Welsh and A Decent Ride also by Irvine Welsh.

Let's hear yours.

My reading has fallen off a cliff in recent years. I used to read on average at least a book a week, but now it's more like a book every couple of months. Too many other distractions I guess. Had a pile for Christmas and the bookshelves are getting full, so have to get back to it.

I'm coming towards the end of one Christmas present; The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell. Was going to move onto another present, possibly Helen Fry's The Walls Have Ears: The Greatest Intelligence Operation of World War II, but found out the library has finally got copies of a book I had on order. So instead I'll be reading the latest book in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series, Rhythm of War which is a mere 1232 pages!

I am going to upset the reading purists here as I use a kindle fire that Mrs. Ebo bought me for Christmas. I do have stacks of books and a first version kindle knocking about, but the fire has accelerated the amount that I read as I can read it in lowlight and books are cheap and so quick to get at the touch of a button.

There's lots of advantages to having a Kindle or other e-reader. For me, the fact that it makes reading cheaper is the most important. I don't have one and when I was a librarian I was actively against them, but you can't fight technological advancements. Most libraries have adapted and offer e-books these days, which is great.

I love a physical book, but believe that anything which encourages reading is to be championed. So if some purist or gatekeeper gives you stick, fuck 'em.

Gary Numan's autobiography "(R) Evolution" is surprisingly decent.
Very interesting bloke and I had no idea he was a fully fledged pilot!

Swansea Libraries ebook section has been brilliant during lockdown. Free as well!
