I saw him play when he came back to play for the Swans at the end of his career.
A class above everyone else on the pitch.

I looked after Len Allchurch in his last years as he used to attend day care, absolutely lovely bloke and wonderful family, I’m too young to have witnessed them in their day, but my grandfather, who is also sadly not with us, used to tell me how amazing those sides were, Rory Keane was one he used to really enjoy watching too.

Awesome! I also looked after him, he was actually very friendly with my grandfather, I think, and I may be wrong, but I think they worked in the aluminium works together.
Again absolutely lovely bloke, always amazed me he was only one of not many to play for northern and Republic of Ireland.
Everyone I ever spoke to of that era remarked how tough he was as a defender, was an absolute pleasure listening to he, and len speaking about the good old days.

Yes, me too. Ivor was my father's hero, and when I saw him play, I understood why. Two Swansea legends.

I was taken to Ninian Park April 1965 as a birthday treat. Some birthday -

Cardiff 5 v 0 Swans

Ivor scored 3 and John Charles 2. A few weeks later we were relegated.

I was traumatised. :lol:

The following season Ivor was playing for us.

In the 1950's and early 1960's - when the Swans were playing away, the trains were pretty packed from High Street Station to Cardiff, with husbands and wives.

The men going to watch Cardiff's opposition in the old Division 1 and the women shopping in Cardiff.

No chance of seeing Division 1 players in Swansea or on TV in those days.

My brother had all the autographs from the touring Australia/West Indies/India sides of the 70's, remember looking at them for hours when I was a kid, haven't got a clue what happened to them but would love to get my hands on them again...
