Budget November 2025

Not at all.. strategic and clever. Each party reaches out to its demographic. As does the tories, as does reform.. the voters of Leicester will have different view than the voters of Winchester.
And another one. Outstanding work. If you haven’t got an X account you should get one. You’d love it there.

Except that the UK is absolutely desperate to increase the birth rate and encourage people to have more kids.
Apparently there’s no evidence that imposing the cap changed any breeding behaviour (for want of a better phrase). So it is unlikely to solve our demographic timebomb. Plenty of evidence of it adding to child poverty though, so only a very narrow minded, cruel or psychopathic person would really oppose it.

Plenty of them about.

If those who couldn't afford more than 2 children stopped having more children and those people who could afford 3+ children had 3+ more children there would be hardly any child poverty.

Why is there such a downer on hybrid vehicles 1500 quid tax a year if you do 10000 miles in a year, or is it just a case of forcing folk into EV cars. Just asking.🤷‍♂️

PHEVs are generally heavier so the theory is they cause more wear and tear on the roads.

So the extra 1500 quid goes to filling potholes(if there'll be anyone dull enough to still own one that is).
Well no but it goes into the consolidated fund from which all public spending is allocated. So in a roundabout way. Roundabout. Geddit.

But they don’t. So you advocate penalising the kids who have no choices. That’s bastardish at best and psychopathic at worst. What’s so hard to understand? I guess your next argument is to sterilise people? Especially Asians? No, I didn’t think so, or bloody hope not.

To be honest, eugenics is the logical end point of that line of argument. There’s no other conclusion. Yes, have kids or more kids but only the right people should have kids or more kids. As the youngest of a family of six kids who would have been right in the firing line of that line of thinking if it was as widespread then as it is now, it’s pretty galling. We would definitely haven viewed as the wrong type of people. And we’re not even Asian so I suppose we’d have had that going for us.

I’ve changed my tune on the two child benefit cap. I used to fall for the lazy “if you can’t have them” line.

But having thought about it a bit and listened to some people I’m okay with it being lifted.

People are looking at this from the point of view of future kids. But you have to think even on that front we have a declining birth rate so we do need more kids you can’t just take the view they’re all feckless that’s moronic.

More fundamentally though if God forbid a spouse dies. Or more likely a redundancy from bread winner or yes a marital breakdown etc why should the kids suffer?

We all fall for the lazy lines and yes there are obviously issues with benefit families but even with them kids should never suffer.

I also do think there’s a massive irony in the anti immigration debate. The same people against this are against immigration which need because of a low birth rate
